[taps mic] Is this thing on? Have been on a mental health break from this app, but wanted to share some happy news. Stepped away from my novel-in-progress for a moment to get back into the short story game. Happy to have this one forthcoming in the Bellevue Literary Review.
Just learned that my son thinks the line in Take Me Out to the Ball Game is “buy me some peanuts and flappercracks” and now I know what I will be singing for every 7th inning stretch during the playoffs.

Anyone who’s followed me very long knows my stance on Vance and what he is, and while I’m all for any moment of centering Appalachia, in the current moment much of the response strikes me more as a sales pitch and right now there are much, much bigger fish to fry.

I'm glad people are looking for other books about Appalachia, but I'm tired of seeing the same picks in all of these lists. There's a ton of great writing out there. Be more adventurous in your reading. Work for it. Don't rely on the predictable content of influencers.
