"Enhanced rationality in autism spectrum disorder" Review article found that people with autism spectrum disorder are better at avoiding several classical fallacies and biases - like the conjunction fallacy and sunk cost bias - than neurotypical people. ->

I can't solve my problems but you know what I'll do? I'll go online and find a set of people I relate to to hang out with. Why do you think you relate to them, anon

I feel quite confident that (1) I can find excellent technical meditation guides, that (2) I can't as easily find ethical / moral guides ("spiritual fathers"), and (3) that I need the latter much more than the former.

One of the weirdest upshots of this thus far — I'm not sure Adler talks about it — is that I've become… weird. Like… if you read Impro by Keith Johnstone you realize how social interactions basically always are status transactions. I play high you play low and then vice-versa. This is esp. obvious in service: you are being served and they play low. (This is what makes Dick's Last Resort and Karen's Diner possible: restaurants where the usual status hierarchy is subverted, wink wink — you're still paying.) But if you don't play high while the server plays low, if you don't play at all then you can see them throw a 404 status error. Blue screen of death. Suddenly you're weird and therefore — potentially — dangerous as you're not predictable. And there just is an element of danger to it: the commons way people relate seems to be not just status-based but quite "enmeshed." There seems to be a subtle pact going on: "I give you the power to affect me in exchange you give me the power to affect you. Now our incentives are aligned: if you hurt me I hurt you, and vice-versa. So I won't. And trust that you won't either." But if you're not playing the game, if you're not default enmeshed, if you're simply "in your lane" then you stick out like a sore thumb.
Alfred Adler (made famous by The Courage to be Disliked) used to speak of "horizontal relationships": relationships based not on hierarchy but on recognizing mutual equality or, at least, equivalence. I experienced that today and, let me tell you, it's worth it.

Super interested in this… I'm sure there's cool research to do here… Drugs seem like an obvious way to affect it…
In this spirit it seems like a fun experiment to me to try to figure out the patterns to inner talk. Like I *sorta* know that, e.g., being tired affects inner talk in a certain way. Would be fun to try to affect it in deliberate ways and find cause effect relationships

People with mental disorders pool in mental hospitals. People with personality disorders pool in prisons. Where do people with "orders" pool on?

You get people arguing for the former OR people arguing for structuralism and NEVER people arguing for BOTH (doesn't go viral)
TPOT's focus on "Agency" is just whitewashing Great Man Theory of History 🤭

"Manipulation of procedural outcomes" ← The medium is the message. Brainrot ← The medium is the message. Discourse, as such ← The medium is the message. Donald Trump ← The medium is the message.

>you should focus on unbottlenecking the exposition of these complete, accurate, models funny thing: i spend tons of time writing (obv.) and still feel like i'm mega-bottlenecked on disclosing my models lol
Replying to @akrolsmir
I like it! A tangent: One read of your thesis is something like: - there are people who are quite busy, have thought about interesting topics in great depth, but are bottlenecked on the last 10% of exposing this - you should focus on unbottlenecking the exposition of these complete, accurate, models vs on getting new smart writers to develop interesting models - In the past i’ve appreciated Erik Torenberg’s podcast network as being the best of this, ie: - you’re a busy substacker, you think about a lot of things, some which are better suited to podcast than essay - this free intellectual byproduct is really valuable - but, setting up a podcast sucks. you need to coordinate guests, plan episodes, sponsors, hire people to mix audio, design graphics, post clips on media, etc etc - OTOH - Erik Torenberg can say “hey i’ll just chat with you 2h a week, ask you questions, find guests, and i’ll handle everything else, we split money” - so many episodes (esp w eg noah smith) really feel like this - Erik has figured out how to provide a configurable option that at the limit can maximally move work away from his counterparty - very cool “late in the stage of creative output unhobbling” there - the podcast episode already exists in your head, very valuable to elicit, just needs a counterparty to pull it out. - thus: would be fun to think of your idea X% more towards this too - what’s an offering you could build for people that are extremely embedded in a context, clearly have the bones of a very important essay, but no time or writing chops to polish it? - could this work as an editing service, a co-author, opinionated hosting, social media & publicity?
