Character is formed in the dark.
Mindset is formed in the dark.

I got some nerdy shit to say but everybody in the player development travel baseball world will understand. Parents, the player development is in the boring. There are a lot of coaches out there that are probably scared to do the appropriate things to develop your child because in practice it’s boring. Cuts and relays are boring. Bunt defense is boring. First and third defense is boring. Base running is boring however, if you ask college coaches, they will tell you physicality and metrics are at an all-time high while baseball IQ and getting simple jobs done is at an all-time low. I truly believe this is because people are worried players will leave their program. If the things they do are not flashy they think parents will complain and kids will check out which actually happens but let them. There are 16 u first baseman out there every summer that have to be reminded to hold a runner on first base. There are third base out there every summer that need to be reminded that they are the cut off man on a single to left field to home plate. Starting pitchers do not know how to hold runners or have multiple pickoff moves. Hitters do not know their approach should be based on the outs the inning the score and the base runners so they go up there blindly without any objective in the world. Ideally, you wanna find a program that can teach your child how to play baseball while also developing their strength and improving their important data points. I’ve seen it firsthand when teaching players that continuously forget easy responsibilities on the field. They check out when you talk about the things they consider boring. Explain to them that you are relaying messages that you were getting from coaches at the college level and hold steady in teaching the kids the things that will help them be able to get themselves relied upon at the next level.

I've had a lifetime of ups, downs, and sideways.
Baseball. Failure. Faith. Rock bottom. Redemption.
And the one lesson that ties all of it together?
You don't become better by avoiding hard.
You become better by embracing it...
I'm a broken, flawed man and I've made mistakes I'm not proud of.
I've let people down...not by choice, but I let them down.
But how I reacted to those moments? That's where the growth lived.
Here's what a lifetime of hard actually taught me.
Lesson #1: Life is going to be hard. That's not a warning, that's a promise.
People are going to be messy.
You're going to make mistakes.
The speed of life doesn't slow down for any of us.
What you control:
• Whether you embrace hard or run from it
• Whether you get better or just get bitter
• What your first thought is when your feet hit the floor in the morning
There's so much more value in pushing through hard times and coming out the other side.
Lesson #2: You can't outrun what you're supposed to grow through.
I numbed failure instead of walking through it.
I told myself it was working.
It wasn't.
Eventually, the hard you've been running from catches up.
And when it does you either let it break you or let it build you.
I've walked through all the challenges, all the ups, all the downs, all the sideways.
And I think every single one of them put me in a position I was handpicked for.
Hard doesn't disqualify you.
It prepares you for what's next.
Lesson #3: Be Steadfast. Be Persistent. Be Resilient.
Those aren't traits you're born with.
They're what's left after hard things do their work on you.
They didn't come from the easy stretches
They came from character that wasn't there before
Empathy I couldn't have had without the hard
Today is the only one we're promised.
Don't waste it running from hard.
Embrace it.

“The most powerful thing in a team sport is a player led program.
You have to help them navigate it.
But, when you can get them to own these moments, you are just so much better.”

Everybody wants discipline… until discipline gets loud.
Everybody wants toughness… until toughness gets uncomfortable.
Hard coaching isn’t abuse.
Hard coaching is correction.
Hard coaching is standards.
Hard coaching is loving a kid enough not to let him stay average.
If a coach is demanding effort, detail, toughness, and accountability bothers you… that probably says more about today’s culture than it does the coach.
