My legislative aide @oh_hash proposed a bill idea to me this year based on his own K-12 experience having to do P.E. while fasting during Ramadan. The bill got out of Senate Education Committee and is now headed to Judiciary!
AB 2377, which would allow for P.E. alternative assignments for students practicing fasting, passed out of the Sen Education Committee with bipartisan support. Thank you @CAIRCalifornia for working with us to ensure all students are safe, supported, and celebrated in school.

I’m proud to co-author #HR52 by Majority Leader Emeritus @EGReyesCA, which marks August 2023 as American Muslim Appreciation & Awareness Month! American Muslims like my staff, Omar Hashemyan, contribute extensively to not only my district, but through the fabric of California.

To feel pain is human.
To ignore pain is unnatural.
To inflict pain on the innocent is evil.
To relieve the pain of the suffering is righteous.
