This is the closest I’ve ever come to being completely and utterly tradpilled.
Increasingly convinced we need to seek out and protect meaningful human connection. Love, devotion, family, friendship, community, belonging.
Few things are more innately human, and few things are more worth building a life around.
I’ve spent most of my adult life directing my ambition toward my career. That ambition hasn’t disappeared, but I’m increasingly convinced that building a beautiful life outside of work deserves every bit as much energy and commitment, if not more.
Find the love of your life. Be loyal and delusionally committed to building a life together. Move mountains for each other if you have to. Bring new life into the world. Raise good people. Be one yourself. Make a home. Invest deeply in your relationships.
Be as ambitious about loving your people well as you are about anything else in this life. Because when we reach the end of it, I’m pretty sure that’s what will have mattered most!!!
Be extremely intentional with your friendships — not acquaintances, not business partners, actual friends
Try to pick high-integrity people — the right people
Invest time in those relationships
Cut or downgrade folks who are transactional or who don’t show up for you
Reallocate that time and energy to the right people who do
It's ok to be cutthroat about this, as life is the memories you create with your friends and family.
Invest in making moments.

Like catching lightning in a bottle, two cameras were rolling as Amy recorded the vocals for "Back to Black" with Mark Ronson.
The very first demo of the track can be heard on the Remixes & B-Sides release of the "Back to Black" single from 2015. 🖤

If your child becomes a reader, 80% of the education job is already done.
Over the decades, I’ve seen thousands of kids. When a kid or a parent tells me they read for hours every day and read lots of books, my immediate thought is: “No problem here.” Biology, history, business, legal documents, even a math textbook – everywhere you need to read. If you read very slowly or with great difficulty, you’re behind.
But reading also develops something else: quiet cognitive focus. Even a kid reading fantasy novels for hours is learning to sit down and focus.
If a kid isn’t reading, they limp through all the academic content. If they are a reader, those basic reading abilities and that cognitive focus can transfer across domains.
That’s why I worry less about the kind of education a child is getting than whether they are becoming a reader.

Your grandmother used to say three words every time you complained. Nobody ever told you what they actually meant.
During a break at one of his talks, a man came up to Fr. Chad Ripperger with a question he had carried his whole life: can you teach me what offer it up means? Fr. Ripperger admitted the man had a point.
"WHEN I WAS A KID YOU'D HEAR THAT: OFFER IT UP, OFFER IT UP. IF THEY DON'T EXPLAIN IT, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT."
So he explained it. And it turns out those three words are not about being quiet. They are about what your suffering is for.
On the cross, he says, Jesus took suffering and turned it into the thing that opened heaven. And because you belong to His body, you are allowed to plug your own suffering into that same exchange. Any of it. The diagnosis. The aching back. The child who does not call. The complaint you swallowed at work today. You take it to Him and you say it out loud:
"LORD, I'M GOING TO UNITE THIS CROSS TO YOUR CROSS, AND I ASK YOU TO CONVERT THIS SUFFERING TO GRACE TO GO SAVE SOULS."
And then, Fr. Ripperger says, something happens on the other side of that sentence.
"HEAVEN OPENS. GRACE COMES DOWN."
Not in the same measure as the cross, he is careful to say. But real. Souls are touched by what you did with your worst day.
Sit with what that changes. The hardest thing in your life right now is not a waste. It is unspent fuel. Most people let it burn off in complaining. A few people hand it over and it becomes grace for somebody they will never meet.
And Fr. Ripperger says heaven is actively looking for those people:
"BE THE GUY THAT PUTS YOUR HAND UP. CHOOSE ME, LORD. I'LL OFFER IT."
Say this today, out loud if you can, over the heaviest thing you are carrying:
"Lord, I unite this cross to Your cross. Convert this suffering to grace, and send it to whoever needs it most tonight. Amen."
👇 One word if you grew up hearing offer it up but nobody ever explained it: HEARD. And send this to the person in your family who always said it, because now you finally have the answer they never gave you.

You wake up
Your husband looks young, the same mustache he used to have over twenty years ago
There are voices in the kitchen
You sit and listen, you can make out one, two… three, three little voices all the way in the kitchen
There is the smell of pancakes in the air, along with some bacon, you are hungry
You look down, your hands, so young
As soon as you walk into the kitchen little voices all cry out your name “mama, mama!!” Hugs filled the air along with sticky syrup hands, but you do not care
By the sink there he stands, your husband
Tall, full head of blonde hair, and you cannot help but hug him. His body feels so strong, filled with youth, you take his smell in, and you stand there taking in the warmth, listening to the children arguing over who gets the last piece of bacon, watching their little feet run across the kitchen floor, memorizing everything, because this ordinary so unimportant Saturday is what you wish you could go back to the most
And then you wake up, life has gone by, you are old, the house is empty, the children are grown, your body aches
And you finally know, you finally understand that at the end of life you will not wish to have had more promotions, to have gone back for one more day of work, to of had more time to clean the house, for one more day of school, for errands, for anything else besides a slow Saturday morning where the air smells like pancakes, and the house is filled with little voices, and you are woken up to the small bodies and the smell of the little heads you love most in the entire world.
An extraordinary life is made up of ordinary days. Of a summer breeze, and small hands, of cold cheeks you kiss in the autumn afternoons, of a steady hand that holds yours, of the wonderful miracle that is having everyone you love, all with you under the same roof.
