There is no public utility the Nigerian political elite can competently deliver;
1. Public water and sanitation - we forgot that a long time ago. We dug our own boreholes, installed cheap Chinese water pumps, built our soakaway systems.
2. Public education - just visit a typical Government-run primary school. Ditto for Public healthcare.
3. Public PSTN and Broadband - not possible.
These people cannot delivery reliable 24 hours mains electricity - even if you were to point a gun their heads 24/7.

My friend’s brother who lost his young wife early this year to the carelessness of a Nigerian anesthesiologist in port harcourt is on this app. That man has not healed since then.
Doctor gave the wife the anesthesia and closed for the day, forgetting her in there.
Yes, you heard that right.
By the time they discovered, mother and child gone.
How do you show up to go deliver a baby and end up dead due to the carelessness of a doctor who probably will be part of the persons trying to correct the figure of speech on if pregnancy is a death sentence or not?!
It is an incompetence issue, yes, but they’re too many cases asides that of neglect from medics.

Africans born here need to start protecting the immigrants who are new to the country. There’s a divide there and we sometimes turn a blind eye to when they’re getting harassed and bullied. We’re stronger as a united community than we are divided. R.I.P Javits🙏🏿

I came to this country young and was able to assimilate quickly plus my mother forbade me from speaking Patois. I still heard the banana boat and African booty scratcher jokes tho.
There is no medicine without empathy and ethics.

I came to the states when I was 10 yrs old and it was during the Ebola outbreak. I took a placement test and got into 7th grade so I was 2-3 yrs younger than my classmates. Before the incident that made my parents pull me out of school to study online, the comments were flying-

In a bid to be medically right, people are dismissing lived experience + high mortality rate & epidemiological burden in Nigeria.
They lack emotional intelligence & would rather tell a man who just lost his wife in labor or a woman complications that it’s not a death sentence.
Remember, there is nothing new on this app.
Whenever there is an issue of medical misconduct, the bad actors will rear their ugly heads as usual.
We’ve been calling out the same set of bad actors for years now.
double shifts, sleepless nights, and years of working tirelessly to ensure your son doesn’t have to deal with anything you did growing up, all for some kid with rocks for brains to take him away from you.
i hope his family can get through this.

I am a Nurse and will tell you with my full check that patients have the right to choose who they want or do not want to receive treatment from and it is your duty as a health professional to make reasonable adjustments for them if possible.
It is your duty of care to make the hospital a safe space for the patient, some of them have religion that doesn’t support opposite sex attending to them and others have past sexual trauma. What ever the case may be you must listen to your patients.
Don’t ever be this guy!
“A woman will be in labour, and male nurses will be prevented from entering the ward. Why?”
— Male Nigerian nurse questions the practice.
He also questioned why male nurses are trained and equipped with the same professional knowledge but are still denied access to certain wards because of their gender.

The condescending, dismissive and flippant tone being used in addressing this pregnancy issue is appalling. My goodness.

If as a healthcare worker, you dismiss people’s personal experiences simply because they account for only 1% of what you’ve encountered in textbooks and clinical practice, you should actually sit with yourself and have some serious conversations.
