Probable reasons why the markets are down:
1. Overleveraged positions are continuing to get flushed
2. AI is exploiting cybersecurity vulnerabilities - people want (and/or expect) the brakes to be put on AI
3. Gold is (unjustifiably?) threatened by nuclear fusion
For those concerned about "lab-grown gold" transmuted from mercury via nuclear fusion:
Replying to @duediligenceguy
Physicist here.
This is nonsense. We know what it takes to have such reactions. These kind of neutron bombardment nuclear reactions were studied and understood more then 50 years ago. We know the energy per reaction, the probability of it occur (we call these cross sections) and the branching ratios (when you bombard a target you make a soup of various elements, so further processing is required to separate the elements). The bombarded target is so radioactive, you have to store it for many years.
Here are the theoretical limit (ideal case) numbers. To make 1 oz of gold, you need to bombard 21 kg of mercury. To get enough neutrons for it, again, theoretical limit, you need 2.8 lbs of pure U-235, or 390 lbs of natural uranium, which is mostly U-238. At current prices, the raw materials ALONE (21 kg of mercury and 390 lbs of uranium) cost $33k ($2k for mercury, $31k for uranium). And we're not talking about the need to have a working nuclear freaking reactor, chemical separation afterwards (with 1 oz of gold you also make 1/3 oz of thallium, which is extremely toxic). This is the ideal theoretical case when everything is assumed to work with 100% efficiency.
To call this scheme a threat to gold mining is ridiculous.
⚠️ RESEARCH: Fusion reactors are going to crash the price of gold.
That’s the headline. Here are the numbers:
Marathon Fusion’s idea is real physics. Fire fusion neutrons at mercury and some of it turns into gold. Published, peer reviewed, nobody disputes it.
Then the math shows up...
A one gigawatt plant, on the optimistic models, makes 2 to 5 tonnes of gold a year. Global mines pull out 3,500 to 4,000 tonnes. One plant moves annual supply by about a tenth of a percent.
The feedstock is enriched mercury. About $15,000 per milligram. Gold trades near $135 per gram. You are loading the reactor with something 100,000x more expensive than what comes out of it.
And what comes out is radioactive. The bars sit in storage for 14 to 18 years before anyone can legally sell them. A plant switched on today delivers its first sellable ounce in the 2040s.

What is up today?
Based on calls for Black Mondays throughout 2026 so far that ended up as Green Mondays or nothingburgers, short-term investors might wanna watch the Tuesdays after. The dips usually happen then đź‘€
Long-term investors can continue to chill, I guess.
You don’t always have to choose between full-time employment and full-on entrepreneurship.
A middle ground is arranging a(n) equity/revenue/profit-sharing agreement with your employer, turning them into a business partner.
People on the internet sometimes seem to freak out when the market is down by a few %.
I used to think this was ridiculous, but now I don’t know if it’s some sort of collective strategy to psychologically negotiate against the market or whatnot.
It’s like if people simulate a freak-out over a small dip, people pile into the market as they collectively believe the dip is really an opportunity, and the market reverses back up.
iOS and Apple Intelligence should not be counted against a device’s storage.
I foresee a class-action lawsuit on this, and/or the EU will regulate it away.
Did the sold-out iPhone Duos today save $AAPL?
While CPI inflation up to 3.7%, inflation is much higher in many crucial categories:
1. Fuel Oil Inflation: +74.2%
2. Gasoline Inflation: +34.2%
3. Airline Fares Inflation: +22.4%
4. Car Repair Inflation: +5.8%
5. Hospital Services Inflation: +5.6%
6. Utility Gas Inflation: +5.0%
7. Electricity Inflation: +4.4%
8. Fruits and Vegetables Inflation: +3.7%
This marks the 67th-straight month with US CPI inflation above the Fed's 2% target.
After 5+ years of persistent inflation, the top 1% of US households are now worth ~14 TIMES the bottom 50%.
Affordability is still getting worse.

Should I buy more gold or wait it out? 🤔
🔥China is buying MASSIVE amounts of gold:
The People's Bank of China added 740,000 ounces of gold to its reserves in September, extending its buying streak to 23 consecutive months.
This is equivalent to 23 tonnes, marking the largest monthly purchase in 3 YEARS.
China's central bank is now the world's 2nd-largest gold buyer year-to-date, only behind Poland, with purchases totaling +103 tonnes.
This raised China's gold holdings to a record 2,410 tonnes, equivalent to 9% of its total FX reserves.
Meanwhile, according to this year's World Gold Council survey, 45% of the 74 central banks surveyed plan to increase gold purchases over the coming year, while just 1 intends to reduce its holdings.
Central bank demand for gold remains extremely strong. $GLD $GDX
