Something very satisfying about refactoring a bunch of code and then, like magic, other parts that you never touched just start working again. Multiple hours of "I suck at this, I shouldn't be a programmer" and then all at once "aha! I'm a genius! It's WORKING!"

Increasing polarization means losing the ability to judge any complex issue on the merits. Fear of having the "wrong politics" obscures reality. So many carefully calibrating beliefs to what they think they're supposed to say or who they're supposed to hate.

sometimes i am in disbelief that the US government allowed kids who have never worked a day in their lives to mostly indiscriminately borrow ~$200K in unsecured loans at ~7% interest which they cannot default out of that is just some crazy shit if you really think about it
