Influencer Mercedes Reshard New, known as Shawty Dred, was arrested after a federal grand jury indicted him on fraud and identity theft charges tied to an alleged $4.4 million SNAP benefits scheme in Georgia. Investigators say New controlled more than 350 fraudulent SNAP accounts created using stolen identities and allegedly used his company, Shawty Dred LLC, to process transactions involving EBT cards. New was arrested Oct. 13 after being indicted on dozens federal counts, including mail fraud, aggravated identity theft and SNAP fraud.
