I dream of helping humanity peacefully coexist on Earth to build a better world 🐝 I get paid to write code that helps other coders peacefully coexist in a repo to build better apps 👩‍💻🛠️ One day I hope to self-actualize

I'm stepping into a new role, which means this awesome opportunity could be yours!
We’re getting close to shipping Turbopack for all Next.js apps, and I’m hiring an Engineering Manager to help us finish the swing and lead what’s next. If you’ve led devtools or systems teams and care about rust, DX, performance, and scale: DM me or check the link in reply 🫡

It's happening 🙌 faster builds coming at ya one milestone at a time 🔜
Next.js 15.3 • Turbopack for builds (alpha) • Community support for Rspack (experimental) • Client Instrumentation hook • Navigation hooks • TypeScript plugin improvements nextjs.org/15-3

It’s the rest of the tweet that’s problematic. The mention of X impact as a good thing, specifically is something I find unfortunate. How is using a social media platform to transparently push for one side a good thing?

So close we can taste it! Building a bundler is a huge lesson in patience 🧘‍♀️ I'm so proud of my team for staying on course and iterating to greatness. There's still so much to do, but this is one milestone I can't wait to celebrate 🍾
Turbopack is now passing 5834 tests for `next dev --turbo`. 26 remaining for 100%: areweturboyet.com ████████████░ 99.6%

Turbopack is getting close to beta! We're nearly done with Next.js features and focusing on stability. We've also been investing in features to aid adoption, like supporting webpack loaders. Try it out and let us know your feedback!

Sad we couldn't make this work, but glad to have had the opportunity to work with @Brooooook_lyn ❤️ A great developer and an awesome dude.
Due to the impact on work and life caused by working across time zones, as well as the difficulty of applying for a German work visa, I have decided to leave Vercel and seek new opportunities. Are there any companies that can sponsor work visas for other countries that have positions for Rust/Node.js? I would love to have a chat. My GitHub: github.com/Brooooooklyn

yes! all of us seek out the same thing: an easier, better, faster way to build good stuff for our users. every framework brings their own sense of taste to how we do that, and that's beautiful. like a spread of food from different cultures. there are many ways to fill our bellies
I wish the library folks would stop fighting. Feels like you all should be community leaders who model collaboration or, at the very least, mutual respect. None of you are ever going to be “right”. It’s getting uncomfortable for those of us who just want to learn from you.

Did someone say there was a third party way to archive my Twitter activity? I haven’t gotten any response from the official Twitter process I started a few days ago.

My team just released Turbopack in Next.js 13 and I got a hole in one on the 13th hole today. I think life might be telling me I peaked and I’m okay with it. Imma keep going for it though ⛳️

gmail: would you like to sound more confident? me: no, I don’t think so

The more important number to me was always that Turbopack is 700x faster than Next.js 12 for large apps. I've worked on webpack apps where updates were 20s+ 😬 They may be rare, but apps of this scale do exist, and that's who we're building for. Not just apps, but entire repos.

I personally think spending a lot of time comparing two lightning strikes is not that useful. On one side I know my team put a lot of effort into those benchmarks and wanted to share the best results, on the other side I know one benchmark number loses a lot of important nuance.

Hopefully soon we can all just bask in the beauty of a thunderstorm of super fast frontend tooling.

Update: since page.js is RSC by default now, the above numbers isn't strictly testing the same thing. The numbers below seem to fit expectations better (turbo 2x faster than Vite), and likely a result of swc + network round trip cost of native ESM HMR. nitter.gq/youyuxi/status/1585935…

This is a good point! Adding 'use client' to page.js does improve it on Next side - root HMR average is down to ~340ms, leaf down to ~85ms! Much more impressive now, although still quite far from marketed 10x.
