People call being a sports fan a one-sided relationship. You give a team decades, and it doesn’t even know your name.
Then you see a video like this. An 81-year-old man in a Brewers jersey, crying, with his wife next to him, watching his team win the World Series. The Brewers came to Milwaukee in 1970, when he was about 25. They made the World Series once, in 1982, and lost in seven games. He waited 56 years, through decades of losing seasons, to see this. You don’t see an 81-year-old in that video. You see the kid who started rooting for them.
The psychologist Daniel Wann has spent years studying why fans stay. His research found that identifying with a local team gives people real connections: the friends you watch with, the strangers you high-five, the shared language of a city. In one of his studies of older fans, with an average age around 71, people who identified more strongly with a local team reported feeling less lonely.
So maybe it’s not as one-sided as it looks. The team never learns his name. But it gave him 56 years of people to share it with, and one night he’ll never forget.

What a closing paragraph
Abdul El-Sayed fears that high-profile attacks have compromised his safety—but he also argues that they’ve given him “one of the biggest and best platforms.” newyorker.com/news/the-polit…
This is possibly the reason the White House stopped posting the transcripts of Trump's remarks.
If you read them, you realize very quickly that he is out of his mind.
EL-SAYED to TRUMP: I will go through a metal detector if you will sit for a lie detector. My first question, Epstein. Second question, did you win the 2020 election? I will go through a metal detector every day if you sit through a lie detector one time.
I love a person who can say "you know what, I hadn't considered that" and actually mean it. No defensive monologue. No immediate reconstruction of their argument. Just a human being discovering new information in real time.

there is something deeply disturbing about deliberately making another human being feel small, inferior/less worthy. i really really hate bullying.

BULLYING in schools is the foundation of many adult behavioral problems today. It really starts from there. It should be treated with a very heavy hand.

I’m remembering that Reddit story about the husband who bullied his wife about spending money on highlights at the salon every 3 months that he doesn’t even notice. She stopped and when they grew out he asked her “Are you eating enough lately? Your hair lost its life and shine.”

These are the men who wonder why wives suddenly "let themselves go" once they are living on their husbands' dime. Who'd've thunk that time and money affect beauty?
