I am honored and humbled to have joined the board of directors of @netnod. Netnod is a Swedish foundation-held organization that provides critical Internet infrastructure services. With 25 years of experience at the core of the Internet some of things Netnod does are: 1. Internet Exchange Points, IXPs // Netnod operates several IXPs in the Nordics, facilitating efficient and high-speed data exchange between different Internet Service Providers (ISPs). These IXPs help reduce latency and improve the performance of internet services by allowing traffic to be exchanged locally rather than routing it through international networks. You don’t want to play Fortnite without IXPs! 2. DNS Services // Netnod provides DNS root server operations, hosting one of the 13 root server clusters. It also offers DNS anycast and unicast services, enhancing the resilience and performance of DNS resolution for its clients. You don’t want to surf the web without root servers! Then you’d probably just stay at 127.0.0.1 or ::1 if you speak IPv6 - as you should! 3. Network Time Protocol (NTP) Services // Netnod provides accurate time synchronization services through its NTP servers, which are crucial for various applications requiring precise timekeeping, such as financial transactions and telecommunications. Use Google search for ”Knight Capital” to learn how to lose 440 MUSD in 45 minutes due to poor time stamps! 4. Internet Infrastructure // As a trusted infrastructure provider, Netnod plays a significant role in ensuring the stability, resilience, and security of the Internet in Sweden and beyond. It collaborates with international organizations to enhance global internet infrastructure. …Or in summary: don’t fxxk with the Internet!
