I'm gonna try not to comment too much more on the discourse but long story short, if you think fic writers are "capitalists" for wanting community engagement, please just block me now cuz what are you on about genuinely

How you react to this tweet is a literacy test. This person explicitly says supporting fan artists and writers is participating. Theyโ€™re saying those who DONT do that shouldnโ€™t have a say in the work. Thatโ€™s it!! No one can fucking read!

Writers on ff dot net literally used to hold new chapters hostage until they got a certain number of hits/comments, this is literally just not true ๐Ÿ’€ can we please stop trying to make it a generational thing whenever someone in fandom has a different take??

Can I just say, fanfic authors from pre pandemic and earlier literally Do Not Give A Fuck.โ„ข Younger/newer authors gameify fanfics because "boohoo statistics, boohoo my kudos". Older gens know writing is for the love of the game who the FUCK cares about your stats.

you donโ€™t need to justify it as a morally superior choice and start arguing writers are evil entitlement goblins for feeling discouraged when nobody comments on a story they spent a month on. nobody knows that youโ€™re the person sitting on ao3 four hours a day and not commenting.
