Hi @bbclaurak, Zionism has resulted in the bombing of children & the killing of tens of thousands of innocent people in Gaza. Again - the actual controversy is the Labour Government are arming that & the BBC 'debate' if it's racist. How's that for answering the question?

This is absolutely the worst of politics. this is point scoring at a local level. And it’s local communities who are going to pay the price.

Dems currently projected to win 255 House seats. Last time this was matched for any party was 2008 (257).

Quite revealing that Labour will work happily with the Tories or even Reform but are determined to turn Green Party opposition to a genocide into a local political football. Andy Burnham. Keir Starmer. The Labour Party still feels very Peter Mandleson. Join.greenparty.org.uk
🟢 EXCL: Understand Green cllrs on Havant Council have submitted a motion of no confidence in the Labour leader after Labour pulled out of the power sharing deal over the ZIR motion. The Havant Greens had said they recognised problematic elements of the motion but denied it was anti semitic and said they could not ask the party leadership to reject it as it was voted for democratically by members. Havant was ran by a “rainbow coalition” of Labour, Greens & LDs. Current make up of HBC: Reform - 9 Labour - 7 Conservative- 5 LD - 5 Greens - 5 Independent- 4 Plus one seat vacant due to by elex

This now means, as a result of Labour diktat from London, that Reform will control Havant council, rather than a coalition of Labour, the Greens and Lib Dems.
🟢 New: Havant Green Group is the latest to say they won’t be asking the party leadership to reject the ZIR motion. Group leader Netty Shepard says she recognises that the wording of the motion is “problematic for some and is creating division and fear” but the accusation that the motion is anti-semitic is unfounded. She also says it was a democratic vote so she can’t ask the leadership to do something that “is not in their power”. In a letter to the Havant Labour leader she said: “As a group we welcomed Andy Burnham's call for a different kind of politics, one based on problem solving, not point scoring. It would be truly ironic if the Labour Party National Executive Committee insist that you leave this coalition over a political point that the Green Group in Havant have no control over. “I believe we have more in common than divides us and I ask you to continue to work with Havant Greens. We value you as colleagues and I believe you value us too.”

Ed has never threatened the Labour Party with non-cooperation for facilitating and enabling a genocide, arresting pensioners for holding signs, or overseeing new restrictions on the right to peaceful protest... despite being the Party of civil liberties. Why is that? Seems to me the whole political establishment is telling on itself. A motion is a red line, but genocide isn't.
I am ruling out our party entering into a national partnership with any party that is committed to a dangerous and antisemitic policy like the Green Party’s. Here is my letter to the Jewish Leadership Council and the Board of Deputies of British Jews 👇

The Liberal Democrats never wanted to work with Labour under Corbyn to get PR. Now they won’t work with the Greens to get it either. It’s almost like this stuff is a grift - and any Lib Dems with power don’t believe in any of this stuff.

Did Czechoslovakia have the right to exist? Did the 1993 Velvet Divorce creating what are now Czechia and Slovakia violate that right? Is Scotland banned from voting for independence because of the UK's "right to exist"? This isn't a difficult concept to grasp!
"Do you think Israel has a right to exist?" @ZackPolanski is spot on. No state has a right to exist. Did Rhodesia? Does the UK? And this was🎯"The status quo right now is a one state apartheid state where Palestinians do not have the same freedom as Israelis, & that's racist"

Memo: The American people want “substantial change.” A new AP-NORC poll reports that most voters want major change in Washington ahead of this year’s midterms. The poll reports that a combined 80% of registered voter respondents said they want either “complete and total upheaval” or “substantial change” in the way the country is run — including 97% of Democrats, 90% of independents and 58% of Republicans. If the Democratic Party thinks that they can just tinker around the edges once they take control of Congress, guess again. The American people have had enough. No more failed establishment status quo policies. The American people want change, REAL change and an agenda that works for the working families of our country. That means, among other things, passing: - Medicare for All - An annual 5% wealth tax on billionaires - The elimination of a corrupt campaign finance system - Raising the minimum wage to at least $20 an hour - Expanding Social Security by scrapping the cap - Free tuition at public colleges and medical and nursing schools - Universal childcare - Building 7 million affordable homes & apartments - A moratorium on AI data centers - An end to never-ending wars and U.S. support for the extremist Israeli government The American people have had enough. They want a government that delivers for working families, not just the 1%. The Democrats must deliver.

Mothin Ali – apology and Correction   On 18 July 2024, I published a post on my X account in which I stated that Mr Mothin Ali, an elected official and Deputy Leader of the Green Party, was involved in the Harehills riots of July 2024 in which people attacked the police.   That statement was incorrect. In fact, Mr Ali was asked by the police to use his position of trust in the community to help bring about peace on the streets. Mr Ali attended the scene for that purpose alone. He was not involved in the disorder or violence in any way, and on the contrary he was one of the principal reasons of bringing an end to the disorder. I offer my sincere apologies to Mr Ali for my post, the harm I caused, and I have agreed to pay him compensation to vindicate his reputation.

In the UK right now: Jonathan Powell must denounce his wife and hand her over to the police! The Greens must say sorry to Israel otherwise there will be no rubbish collection in sixteen councils! Best-selling author of stark, realist romances cannot sell books in the UK because she is a terrorist supporter! Looks like quite a few developments coming to a head to force the issue and reveal some contradictions.

Excellent from Sheffield Green Party pointing out reservations working with Labour whilst their government arms a genocide. If Labour chooses to destabilise local councils because they want to play party politics - then they can own the consequences for the city. 👏🏼

Apparently Sally Rooney is Antisemitic because she opposes genocide. People in Ireland are Antisemitic because they oppose genocide. This is why Andy Burnhams comments yesterday were so deeply irresponsible - blurring all the lines between being Jewish & criticising Israel.
Boulton "she, in common with a lot of people in Ireland is taking a very strong pro Palestine & I have to say anti Israel & anti Jewish stance" Adam, can you provide evidence that Sally Rooney is taking an anti Jewish stance? Or are you in fact lying to smear critics of Israel?

It’s helpful to see where the only red lines in British politics actually are. There are parties with councillors who want to establish concentration camps for migrants and machine-gun helpless refugees in the open seas, but this is what Labour considers beyond the pale.
🚨 NEW: Labour says all council power-sharing agreements with the Green Party will end unless their local groups condemn the “Zionism is racism” motion
