ahh its out!! i worked on a part of the new figjam + markdown support that @figma just launched! pls use it and make text more expressive 🥺
my decision tree for arc replacement browsers
need drm support - dia (ignore the ai stuff/hope they port more arc features)
closest arc like experience - yab/office commun search (maybe zen but note firefox engine + less polish)
want refined chrome experience - helium
generally i'd be wary of a lot of these projects since maintenance is not guaranteed
some thoughts after trying browsers that were suggested
- I don't think arc alternative = having side tabs and a swipe profile switcher
- I've taken arc's polish for granted
- still not sold on AI in my browser and the permanent visual space these features take
- lack of drm is probably a non-starter for most people

sad end to an era
i still daily drive arc any good alternatives? chrome with sidetabs doesn't feel the same and i can't use dia at work :/
We've decided to sunset Arc on December 22, 2026.
That's not an easy sentence to write. We spent years building Arc and celebrating each and every release along the way: we have so much pride and love for what we made alongside the Arc community.
Our priority is to deliver best-in-class security for our members. Keeping a browser secure takes constant, dedicated work that is only increasing in the age of AI. Dia was built from the ground up to meet today’s security standards, so that's where our engineering and security teams will focus moving forward.
We've worked to make switching to @diabrowser as easy as possible for Arc members. Here's how:
· Your passwords, bookmarks, extensions and history come over to Dia seamlessly.
· Spaces, Folders, and Tab Groups are in Dia and import over with your data intact.
· Dia now surpasses Arc benchmarks in stability, speed, and security.
· The browser features you use in Arc are free in Dia, and the AI is optional.
Thank you for using Arc, for pushing us to make it better, and for building alongside us. The team that made Arc is the same team behind Dia, and some of our most ambitious work is just ahead. We'd love for you to be there with us when it lands.
For people who found the unified design system announcement exciting, we would love to hear your hopes and dreams for it are!
we have our convictions and plans but always great to hear from folks what is most important!
ah yes a figma file with a code layer loading our figma prototyping playground with a code layer loading our figma prototyping playground
so I work on design systems at figma now and this is what I’ve been helping build!
a dedicated home to bring all things design systems (design, code, and guidelines) into one place. just a preview today so stay tuned!
once again, you just need visualize your solutions, perhaps on a multiplayer canvas
thank you whoever at github fixed this so i don't have to wrap the video link in a html tag just to put it into a table
Replying to @mamuso @brian_lovin
would love for videos to be more easily put into tables too! right now the only way is to use a <video> tag
sometimes all you need is a space to visualize your thinking beyond just words
Over the past few weeks I've been spending a lot of time in Figma, working on the next phase of Playbit. Using robots for writing code, Figma feels like the perfect "grounding truth" for software.
In many ways it beats plan & design docs. I just tell the bots (in their AGENTS.md) to look in Figma as well as my docs.
Then, as they go along with their various tasks they look for guidance in my Figma doc, and I just keep working in Figma.
Sometimes I ask a bot to add a page with a GUI sketch (some UI state that's missing) or to draw me a schematic of some mechanism of the implementation.
It would be fascinating to see Figma take a more general step towards software making. Imagine Notion but instead of text it's a high-fidelity 2D canvas.
