Those of us on the conservative side in American politics don't need new principles. We need to recover and rededicate ourselves to the old ones. If we do--but only if we do--we can meet the challenges of a progressive movement that has fully embraced expressive individualism and identity politics and is increasingly, and more and more openly, socialist.
What does my kind of conservatism want to conserve? Here are a few things, for starters: 1. The ur-principle of all sound morality, that of the profound, inherent, and equal dignity of each and every member of the human family. 2. Flourishing institutions of civil society, beginning with the marriage-based family. 3. The rule of law and limited, accountable, constitutional republican government. 4. Basic civil rights and liberties: freedoms of religion, speech, and assembly; due process and the equal protection of the laws. 5. Genuinely truth-seeking institutions of education at every level. 6. A prosperity-generating market-based economy that sustains and elevates living standards for everyone while operating within the bounds and subject to the requirements of the common good. 7. Public safety ensured by uncorrupted, efficient, and effective police, prosecutorial, and judicial authorities operating within rules fashioned to preserve and protect basic civil rights and liberties. 8. A physical environment supportive of human life and health and a moral ecology suitable for the rearing of children. 9. A strong military capable of defending the nation and its vital interests while remaining aloof from politics and respecting the principle of civilian authority.

Just heartbreaking. A graduate student at Charleston Southern.
Rachel Apa, a former Division I field hockey player at Bucknell University, collapsed in Central Park about two miles from the finish while running the NYC Marathon. Her father says she was texting him shortly before she collapsed. Read more at the link in bio.

Praying for the family and friends of Rachel Apa, a graduate student @CSUNIV who recently passed away running in the NYC Marathon. She was running to raise money in memory of her grandfather, who passed away from Parkinsons disease.

For years I have read @TGC, so it was an honor to write this essay on the shortcomings of the secular philosophy of Effective Altruism. At first glance, its call to do the most good possible sounds like something Jesus might say. Yet Christianity places those truths inside a much larger story, one where goodness is defined not by our calculations but by God himself. thegospelcoalition.org/artic…

Don’t apologize for being a Baptist. Don’t overreact to our weaknesses, and don’t assume other traditions are obviously smarter or deeper. Baptists have a rich heritage from both the whole Christian tradition and our Baptist history—and they’re readily available to study.

Sofia Franklyn from “Call Her Daddy” opens up about the emotional trauma she experienced from the abortion pill. “No one prepares you for that part.” Sofia says she experienced a “physiological, hormonal, neurological chain reaction,” and was left with only Reddit threads and a suggestion from a friend for support. This is the reality many women experience after the abortion pill. One in NINE women experience serious adverse effects. The abortion pill kills preborn babies. It damages women. The @FDA must pull this dangerous drug from the market.

#Texas defense vs. Ole Miss • 3 INT • 5 three-and-outs forced • 20 points allowed • Held Kewan Lacy to 2.3 YPC • Held Ole Miss to 6-18 on 3rd down Did it all without the country’s best pass rusher. Will Muschamp has lived up to the excitement in his return to Austin.
