why does all fanfiction discourse always get reduced to stupid, unnuanced either-or arguments?? general writing advice is okay; targetted unsolicited criticism is NOT. sharing epubs is okay; reposting fics is NOT. *some* writers not wanting their work included in archive drives
People claiming the fic drives are for community well then you could've made it an community effort instead of trampling over authors. You could've opened a drive for willing fic authors to put their works! Most of us don't write on the archive directly we do have copies!
Give authors some agency over their works, be respectful towards them. I think that's really what the whole discourse boils down to. Allow us to give instead of ripping it from our hands.

Arguably the biggest and most saddening part of this fanfic repost discourse is that the issue is less about the reposting and more about the fact that people will do everything in their power to remove authors from the equation while still wanting their work.
In conclusion of today's discourse: fanfic authors are only scarcely allowed to breathe and are otherwise not allowed to have any wants or needs entirely. Their minds and anything they produce are not their own.
I really do wonder if people actually expect authors to continue sharing fanfiction with joy if in addition to all the crap talk already happening every day, they also will insult and threaten them directly over daring to have an opinion on the distribution of their work?
The absolute disgusting things I have seen on here to day is just so disgraceful and disheartening and it's robbing me of the joy fandom usually brings me. Have you all no shame?
I'm gonna start a different discourse bc it's something I have witnessed in my own classroom before: Ao3 (and other fanfic sites) gives free access to literature without any hurdles. I had students form low income backgrounds read on ao3 bc they didn't have access to books
I did set up library cards with them (something that their parents often didn't do bc of language barriers or bc they didn't know it was free for the children) but I never banned ao3 from reading hour. It's still reading. I only let them show me the tags and rating.

Tl;dr: community involves all parties, and Iβm really tired of seeing so many readers talk about how fandom is community driven when you guys donβt treat writers as a part of that community. Writers are not upset about credit, theyβre upset about being reduced to content.

Anyways.
As a sort of disclaimer nobody asked for, since the whole βhereβs another google drive link with fanficsβ is just all over the place.
Idc if *my* fics are shared or not shared - if someone has them downloaded - well good for them, bc I donβt. (1/4)
Regarding the Google drive discourse: the only real issue I have is if it includes locked fics bc there's a reason why we have them locked...but also if an author tells you they don't want their fics distributed that way just don't be an ass and remove it?

Thank you Stratt for downloading the entire internet onto Mary bc I donβt have to worry about ao3 being down.
