Before we took ‘giant’ from French, Old English had a whole native vocabulary about giants. A giant was called an ‘ent’. The giant race was entcynn or ‘entkind’, entisċ meant ‘relating to giants’, and Roman ruins were called ‘ald enta ġewerc’, or ‘ancient work of giants’.

Just finished the Exile on Main Street 33 1/3 by Bill Janovitz, and there's a bit where he mentions he's always wondered if there was a compression error in the original mastering of "Tumbling Dice," and I realised I just don't have what it takes to be an expert on anything.
