How to beat deal with the heat during your period. 1. Stay Hydrated! Drink plenty of water and electrolytes to counteract fluid loss from sweating. 2. Use air conditioning, cool showers, or damp cloths to lower your body temperature. 3. Avoid strenuous outdoor exercise. 💗
Across Nigeria there are reports of an increasing heat wave. Here is how it affects your period: 1. Heat can trigger inflammation and affect blood flow, which may make dysmenorrhea (painful cramps) feel more severe. Please rt. ⬇️

4. Progesterone naturally raises your core body temperature during the second half of your cycle, making it harder for your body to cool down and increasing the risk of dizziness, low blood pressure, and severe fatigue. It may not be preventable, but it is manageable. 💗

2. Vasodilation combined with changes in fluid balance can occasionally make menstrual bleeding appear heavier or more clottier. 3. High heat stress can impact the hypothalamus, potentially delaying ovulation or altering cycle lengths.

“Did you bring it?” "I have to go to the restroom." “Meet me behind block B” “Please don't let anyone enter” Girls are very familiar with these phrases. We whisper, we hide, we feel ashamed. Let’s normalize saying: "I’m on my period." PERIOD! 💗

Statements like “you have started your period, you are now a woman” contributes to pedophilia, child marriage, teen suicides, and girls resorting to hiding their periods and unhealthy menstrual practices. Changing the language around menstruation is a step towards empowerment.

Happy International Day of the Girl Child. 💜 A girl is not a burden, a bride-in-waiting, a body to control, or a voice to silence. She is a whole human being with dreams, rights, choices, and a future.

Happy International Day of the Girl Child. On this day, I remember the girls in: Afghanistan who can't go to school. Congo being sold by her family. Sudan being r4ped by rebels. Nigeria being married at 16 in a mass wedding. Gambia who gets FGM. Which girl do you remember?💜

In a small village in Northern Nigeria, fourteen year old Amina was learning about the human heart when her mother walked into the room and told her she was getting married. She stared at her biology textbook, at the diagram of a heart beating inside a human chest, and wondered if anyone had ever thought about what it meant for a little girl to have her own heart broken. "Baba has found you a husband," her mother said. "His family will take good care of you." "But Mama, I want to become a doctor." Her mother sighed. "You are a girl, Amina. You cannot spend your whole life chasing dreams." That night, Amina cried quietly into her pillow. Not because she did not want to be loved, or because she thought marriage was a bad thing, but because she was fourteen and someone else had already begun deciding what the rest of her life would look like. She had not finished growing, yet the world was already asking her to stop. She had not discovered all she could become, yet people were preparing to settle for all she was expected to be. And somewhere between her father's good intentions and her community's expectations, her childhood was slipping away. Amina's story is fictional. But for countless girls across Northern Nigeria and in most parts of the world, the fear of having their lives decided for them is painfully real. We must ask ourselves: what does it mean to protect a girl if we take away her voice? To love her while refusing to see beyond the roles we have chosen for her? A girl is not a childhood to be cut short, a burden to be transferred through marriage, or a vessel for other people's expectations. She is a person, still becoming. She deserves the right to learn, the freedom to grow, and the opportunity to choose her own path. Ending child marriage must go hand in hand with investing in girls' education, healthcare, safety, and agency. We cannot celebrate their potential while ignoring the barriers that threaten it, or keep asking them to be resilient in circumstances we have the power to change. Imagine what becomes possible when every girl can stay in school, speak without fear, and grow up knowing her voice matters. This International Day of the Girl Child, let us look beyond the hashtags and celebrations. Let us protect girls' rights, challenge the practices that rob them of their childhoods, and build communities where they are safe enough to dream and supported enough to thrive. A girl should not have to fight for opportunities that should never have been denied to her. Happy international day of the girl child 2026. #Endchildmarriageandinvestingirlsrights
