Dolly Parton was a gift to the world. And trying to belittle her existence over a political difference is asinine and a bit insane.

As some of you know, I do a weekly newsletter to my subscribers on my website. This is an excerpt from last year’s missive:
I'll wish you a Happy Thanksgiving with a few memories of people, and places, and things for which I am grateful…..
Family - first, most, last, and always, of
course. I remember growing up in our little farm town, Greenup, Illinois, living with my mom and her mother-in-law, while my dad fought in the Korean War. Every night my Grandma Mom would make me a little bath in a galvanized tub set behind the living room pot-bellied coal stove. Our town square had a hand pump with a tin saucepan hanging on a hook. Everybody in the entire town would drink sweet fresh well water out of that saucepan, and never gave it a second thought. I have laughed at that memory more than once when riding through Beverly Hills and seeing a lone driver sitting behind the wheel of a big Mercedes with a paper mask over her face. We somehow always managed to survive just fine in
those simpler times.
I'm thankful for Sara, who loves me and expects nothing in return. I'm thinking it must be a clever trick, however, because my greatest joy is doing everything I can to make her happy, too. Funny how grateful you become when you are more interested in giving than receiving. I guess a lot of folks forget about the second part of the word, ThanksGIVING.
I'm thankful for the wonderful souls l've loved so dearly and who now rest in the arms of God. The memories of their laughter are the music of my life, the whispers from the heart I hear on every
breeze.
I'm grateful for my family still with me on this blessed earth, who make every day feel like Thanksgiving. They are my lifeblood and my foundation.
For the friends who have been there for me through thick and thin, rough times and smooth, thanks are the threads that bind.
For a new president who stands for world peace and America first, I am grateful for those promises, and hope all Americans will join in making those dreams come true.
For the morning sun each day, I am grateful to God.
To Shooter Jennings, who celebrated me instead of ridiculing me, when I presumed to write some song lyrics, I am grateful for your undying friendship.
And finally, to you, my subscribers, who have made the "second act" of my American life the joy that it is, thank you
