Surreal night in Beijing
Protesters chanted "no to covid tests, yes to freedom" for hours
Some cheered for Xi Jinping to step down.
After 2am, police presence ramped up. I asked one what they'd do if people didn't leave. Would they use tear gas? He just said plz go home @cnn

I wish every single person in the West would listen to Putin's speech. Obviously, that won't happen so let me summarise as a professional translator for 10+ years. He states, as he has done from the outset, what his intentions and complaints are in the plainest terms possible.🧵

Massive status bias in peer review.
534 reviewers randomized to review the same paper revealing the low status, high status, or neither author. 65% reject low status, 23% reject high status.
Amazing work by Juergen Huber and colleagues. #prc9

Ok, this is the most disturbing border video I’ve seen so far. Lukashenko’s armed thugs dressed like ISIS militants are quite literally pushing women and children over the Polish border fence and forming a human shield to prevent them from returning to Belarus. Please RT!

A much earlier (28.01.1937) and more crude cartoon by Liao Bingxiong 廖冰兄) aka Dong Sheng (東生) referring the fate of Jiang Jieshi in the aftermath of the Xian Incident of 1936. The title - “Digging a Grave for Oneself” (自掘墳墓) + tombstone “the Rebels’ Tomb” (叛逆之墓).
Liao Bingxiong (廖冰兄) was a highly talented cartoonist/artist; here's his 1950 take on 'protecting the fruits of the revolution' in New China from Jiang Jieshi's 'special agents.' h/t @CraigClunas
