40 vuotta – ajatuksia elämästä Mulla on tänään synttärit. 40 vuotta on mittarissa. Mahtava tunne. Pohdin elämäni tärkeimpiä oppejani tältä matkalta. Mietin hymyssä suin ja kiitollisena kohtaamia ihmisiä ja kokemiani tapahtumia. 🧵👇

As always, qutting war is a bad business model.
May the bloodthirsty warmongers, who push for a war that never ends, burn in hell!

“War is their business model”
“The war is not meant to be won, it is meant to be continuous.” — George Orwell, 1984 Defense contractors & their powerful lobby will never be satisfied with simply aiding the U.S. in building a strong military that is prepared for war. The nature of the industry’s existence is not patriotism, but endless conflict. War is their business model—a perpetual state of war ensures a perpetual demand for their products. Until we address this issue, we will continue to be subjected to forever wars that only serve the defense contractors—and the warmongering interests wealthy enough to rent the defense contractors. Stop spilling American blood for profit.

This has got to be the most moronic story of the month. It's genuinely so stupid it frankly boggles the mind. It was broken by Norwegian daily "Dagens Næringsliv" (DN) under the title "Chinese-owned rental cars filmed secret exercise: Saved video of soldiers and codes" (dn.no/forsvar-og-sikkerhet/k…). BUT when you look into the story what actually happened is that, for an exercise, the Norwegian army was short on cars so it rented some from Hertz. Those rental cars had dashcams - as cars do - that the soldiers mistakenly kept on. At one point, some soldiers found out about that: they were clicking through the car menus out of boredom and stumbled on the footage, including clips of themselves typing gate codes in front of the camera. They deleted the footage. There is zero evidence the footage left the car. THAT'S IT, that's the whole story. China hysteria being what it is in Europe these days, this somehow got transformed into a "China spying" story because Hertz Norway is owned by Volvo, itself owned by Geely (a Chinese company), and 2 of the cars were from a Chinese brand, Deepal. The narrative apparently being that Geely, through Volvo, through Hertz, deliberately left standard dashcams on in rental cars in the hope that the Norwegian military would one day rent them and forget to turn the dashcams off 🤦 And now, as is always the case, it's being spread globally by accounts like Clash Report 👇, which even found a way to make the story dumber: their version has the cars as "Chinese-owned Volvos", when they weren’t Volvos at all. Such is the contemporary media ecosystem: one outlet invents the hysteria, the next one strips away the last remaining nuance and we all end up dumber for it.
Norwegian soldiers discovered that Chinese-owned Volvo rental cars recorded and stored videos during a major military exercise in Oslo from September 14–18. The footage captured soldiers entering and leaving vehicles, their movements, locations and even security codes used to access restricted areas. Despite the discovery, the military continued using the cars due to a lack of alternatives. Source: DN

🇺🇸 One of Anthropic’s own safety researchers thinks there’s a greater than 10% chance AI wipes out humanity within the next decade. Evan Hubinger, who leads Alignment Science at Anthropic, put it pretty plainly: “We really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade.” He added that Anthropic still doesn’t have a solution for aligning superintelligence and isn’t clearly on track to find one. The comments came after researcher Jacob Coxon resigned, saying people building AI genuinely believe it could kill everyone by the end of the decade. When the people building the thing start putting a number on the odds it kills you, that’s probably worth paying attention to. Writer: Julie
The people building AI believe it could KILL us ALL by 2030 Jacob Coxon is a Cambridge-trained pretraining researcher who just quit Anthropic over safety fears: "The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. Do not underestimate the power of this technology. These will soon be superhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionize any field overnight, and acquire real power and resources." What a time to be alive indeed. The characters and events of this story are too crazy to be fiction so they must be real. 🤷‍♂️🙄
What a time to be alive: Germany aims to develop the largest military in Europe, and the Europeans are cheering it on. Germany's political class is in full consensus in its enthusiasm for the war with Russia, with only the "far-right" party in opposition. The new reincarnation of Hitler who leads this racist 'Nazi party' opposing the war, Alice Weidel, is a lesbian woman with a Sri Lankan partner. Merz fully supports the genocide in Gaza, argues that Israel is "doing our dirty work" by attacking Iran, wants to take the lead in the proxy war against Russia, and defends democracy by crushing dissent. When the US destroyed Nord Stream, Germany blamed Russia. When the US provided subsidies that incentivised uncompetitive German companies to move to the US, Germany blamed Russia for its deindustrialisation. When the US threatened to annex Greenland, Merz responded by warning about a Russian threat to Greenland. Germany is now attempting to reverse its deindustrialisation with a booming military budget. In the First World War, Germany framed its military actions that resulted in the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk as liberating Ukraine from Moscow, while in reality Germany was establising its dominance over the region. In the Second World War, Germany yet again claimed to liberate Ukraine from Moscow, while actually treating it as an imperial conquest. This time around, Germany "liberated Ukraine" by toppling its democratically-elected government against the will of the majority of Ukrainians to convert it into a frontline state in an anti-Russian military alliance. Germany supported the brutality against Donbas and the purging of Ukraine's dissenting political opposition, opposition media, Russian language, and the Orthodox Church. The Minsk peace agreement negotiated by Germany was admitted to be a fraud to prepare Ukraine for war, and Germany is pumping in weapons. While most Ukrainians want a negotiated settlement, Germany boycotts diplomacy, pushes to deport Ukrainian refugees, and to conscript Ukrainian women to keep the war going - all under the slogan of "standing with Ukraine". Yet, the electoral defeat of Merz and his policies is framed as a threat to democracy and any criticism of make you a traitor who spreads Russian propaganda. How will this end?

🇺🇸 New Big Data Polling shows Thomas Massie pulling ahead in the Kentucky-04 GOP primary at 50.6%, despite $10 million in Israeli lobby money pouring in to defeat him. The age breakdown tells an interesting story: -Gen Z: Massie 81.5% -Millennials: Massie 68.6% -Gen X: Massie 53% -Boomers/Silent Generation: Gallrein 62% Younger Americans are siding with the guy voting against forever wars and foreign aid. The older generations are siding with the candidate funded from outside their state. Typical boomers. The same generation that cheered Iraq, cheered Libya, cheered Syria, and now wants to cheer Iran is the one trying to take out the only Republican telling them no. The kids are alright. The grandparents need a harsh wake-up call...
🇺🇸🇮🇱 Massie just called AIPAC a defense contractor lobby wearing a foreign policy costume. Their pitch to him was always about Lockheed Martin and Raytheon getting paid. When military aid to a foreign country is sold to Congress as a stimulus package for U.S. weapons manufacturers, you're doing procurement.

🇺🇸🇫🇮 The U.S. locked in its Arctic play. 2 next-gen icebreakers are heading to Alaska by 2028, with up to nine more on order through a Finland partnership and U.S. shipyards. $3.5B bet. Finland builds the 1st 4. U.S. builds the rest. Control the Arctic or lose it. Source: U.S. Coast Guard News
🇺🇸🇮🇷 The U.S. just ran the biggest air logistics operation since Iraq. In 60 days, 7,642 military flights. 572 unique aircraft. 40% of all U.S. aerial refuelers deployed to one theater. A war machine at full throttle. The numbers break down like this: C-17 cargo planes made 3,399 flights alone. KC-135 refuelers ran 2,703 sorties. Combined, these aircraft moved nearly 300,000 metric tons of supplies and ordnance into the region. Over 1,600 transatlantic crossings in two months. That's 26 flights a day, every single day, just crossing the Atlantic to feed this operation. March 14-21 was the peak: 1,262 flights in seven days, averaging 180 per day. The kicker: this data is only what shows up on public radar. B-52s, F-15s, F-22s, they turn off their transponders. So the actual sortie count is much higher. This is just the logistics shadow. What does this tell you? The U.S. committed resources on a scale that doesn't happen for posturing or pressure campaigns. This was preparation for sustained kinetic operations on a historic level.
