The ER membrane protein complex acts as a chaperone to promote the biogenesis of multi-bundle membrane proteins biorxiv.org/content/10.64898… #biorxiv_cellbio
We made nanobodies that make your heart🫀 stop 🛑beating. Keep reading to learn how this taught us about how large membrane proteins like ion channels are folded and assembled in human cells. Beyond excited to share my lab's first preprint: Please 🔄 bit.ly/49A0PtD
We found that EMC engages the Ca2+ channel co-translationally as part of a large ribosome-multipass-translocon-EMC supercomplex, likely to protect vulnerable channel folding intermediates from misrecognition by ER quality control. We anticipate that other multi-bundle channels
and transporters face similar problems and require chaperone protection in the membrane. Amazing teamwork @Stanford @Stanford_MCP Congratulations to all authors with and without X accounts @SingalBharti @MahamayaBiswal @CS59793 @CaseyGifford
I won't be posting on this platform anymore. Please consider following us on pleinerlab.bsky.social

Mitochondria consist of networks of cylindrical tubes, right? Not necessarily! - in our new preprint, @gavsturm.bsky.social investigates how mitochondria transiently adopt a beads-on-a-string morphology

We believe we need better tech to measure what cells are doing and to precisely control their behavior to crack the many mysteries of biology. These mysteries keep us curious, inspired, and excited. We're recruiting at all levels - reach out if you're interested in joining us!
Welcome to Day 1 of our Meet the Investigators series! We’re kicking off with our Core Investigators. 🧬🔬
The human body is filled with spectacular and fundamental mysteries. How do cells change over time and with disease? How do they communicate? How can we harness cellular behavior to improve health?
By interweaving molecular engineering, synthetic biology, and genomics, new Core Investigator @FelixHorns develops novel technologies to illuminate cellular and tissue-level processes in the body.
His lab’s latest: COURIER, a system that lets researchers tap into cellular communication networks so they can eavesdrop and even influence cellular behavior in real-time without damaging cells.
Felix will also join @Stanford as an Assistant Professor of Genetics later this month.

Thrilled to share our preprint on the structure of a nautilus-like assembly of membrane proteins, HflK/C, that regulate the FtsH AAA protease activity, a key component of bacterial inner membrane protein degradation machinery. (1/n)
