With all the recent scrutiny over tree felling, @KeForestService could probably make life a lot easier for itself by being more proactive with public information.
For starters, publishing detailed, publicly accessible maps of forest boundaries would help Kenyans understand where forests begin and end, and even help the public identify illegal tree felling or encroachment.
Secondly, for planned harvesting, clearing or replanting activities, KFS could publish advance notices showing the exact areas on a map, along with details of the work being carried out.
Making the underlying GIS data openly available would be even better, allowing the mapping community to help improve the data and build useful tools around it.
This could help KFS avoid unnecessary controversy, build public trust and involve more Kenyans in protecting our forests.
A dinosaur theme park is being proposed inside Oloolua Forest, near Ngong, Kajiado County 🦕
The development will cover approximately 7.63 acres and include robotic dinosaur exhibits, elevated nature trails, five eco-cottages, a restaurant, museum and picnic areas.
The project has received a special use licence from the Kenya Forest Service, although NEMA environmental approval has not yet been confirmed.

Dear @ncakenya
I verify data for a living. So I checked your own portal.
Project No. 53128815710410: not there.
Stromax Holdings E.A Limited not there.
Either your portal is wrong or your press statement is. Both came from you.
Records don't lie. Let's see if you do!

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja says the multi-storey building that collapsed along 9th Street in Eastleigh was under construction without the required approvals, despite an application for a 15-storey building with a basement having been submitted.
Sakaja says the county has forwarded documentation to the DCI for investigations and called for accountability among the developer and professionals involved, including the architect and engineer on record.
The tragic incident in Eastleigh, where a multi-storey building under construction collapsed this afternoon, happened along 9th Street:

2. The meeting reviewed a proposal for restoring the river, which is currently canalised through the Centre, and reclaiming the riparian land for rehabilitation as a public park. Both parties agreed on a programme to finalise the restoration plan by next week.
Worth noting that in the recent Karura PFMP (Participatory Forest Management Plan), KFS maps part of Muthaiga Golf Course within the Karura Forest area, suggesting this is not a new position. But it would be useful to see older survey records showing how the boundary has been mapped over time.
Finding a home online in Kenya should be simple. Somehow, it isn't.

🗺️ Nairobi has a new zoning policy. We've made it easier to explore.
Plotwise now maps Nairobi County's 2026 Development Control Policy, making it easy to see a location's zone or sub-zone, permitted land use, maximum building levels, ground coverage, plot ratio, minimum plot size, determinants, and any special corridor controls.
The same information is also available when researching individual parcels, so you can see the planning controls that apply to a specific property.

There are some odd things and errors in the new 2026 Nairobi Development Control Policy that could cause confusion. Hopefully the authors do another review so developers and other stakeholders have the clarity they need.
For example, here are the policies for New Muthaiga and Old Muthaiga. The boundary descriptions appear to have been swapped, with each one describing the other area. For example, New Muthaiga, as shown on the map, doesn't extend to Thika Road.
The document is available here: drive.google.com/file/d/1Mr4… (also available on the Nairobi County website).

And thank you to the Nairobi County Government for taking this important step towards finalizing the policy. 👏
According to the policy document, Mountain View has its own policy separate from the wider Dagoretti zone, but it is missing from the map.
Another map error. There shouldn't be two areas labeled "Muthangari". The triangular one is actually Kianda Triangle.
"Muthaiga North" in Roysambu appears on the map but has no corresponding policy in the document. The same appears to be true for the area to the right of the "Marurui Government" label.
Here's a map showing where Kithoka Beat is within Upper Imenti Forest. Kithoka Beat is one of nine management sections in the forest, used by KFS for conservation, patrols and forest management. It's also home to eco-tourism sites and areas of cultural significance.

Nairobi developers! Imagine you bought an apartment with natural lighting off plan but even before you can move in?, the same crane used to build the building turns around and starts raising another building right next to your balcony 🤦🏽♂️
