The punishment for science misconduct is …. nothing. All these men are still running labs / paid professors.
List of high-level Alzheimer's researchers accused of credible fraud:🧵 #1 - Marc Tessier-Lavigne Genentech pointed out problems in his 2009 Nature paper in 2012. After an expose by @tab_delete, he had to resign from Stanford Presidency, but can still run lab and do research.

They should do research on what happens in my brain when the timer starts on a short presentation and my internal sense of time duration enters a quantum state and i also forget to look at my watch or notes.

Fredric Jameson, perhaps the greatest literary critic of his time, has left us. Back in 2019, a Chronicle Review forum revisited Jameson's seminal essay "Postmodernism, or the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism," with contributions by Moira Weigel, Mark Greif, Marjorie Perloff, David Bromwich, and more: chroni.cl/47K5ztV

The premise of the reactionary mindset has always been extreme pessimism towards knowledge: We cannot know anything. It's utter hubris to claim otherwise. So worship nature & tradition, and believe whatever happens into your head. They've never stopped being on this beat.
I honestly don’t understand what the alternative to “news, science and data” could be. Like how is a 8 billion person global civilization supposed to function with everybody just doing their own research?

If you carefully consider the question of pragmatism you will see that it is nothing else than the question of the logic of abduction.

To say, therefore, that thought cannot happen in an instant, but requires a time, is but another way of saying that every thought must be interpreted in another, or that all thought is in signs.

Bit of a throwaway thought but it's an interesting parallel to the Cold War that strategic intelligence remains a weak point of RUS/Soviet IC tradecraft compared to the perennial specialization in security intelligence. (legacy of overly suspicious+politicized chekist logic?)
Russian intelligence failed Putin before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine but has since recovered (in his eyes), redeeming itself by securing his regime nearly 3 years since his shambolic invasion. @GioeINT @thedailyhuws @kloosha @kclintelligence - youtu.be/rr39f3AnLow
