We've been fed a myth.
Wildflowers - bad - dig out/spray/strim, replace with non native garden centre flowers.
But why?
Wildflowers are beautiful. Our wildlife feed & breed on them.
Answer - wildflowers are free, everything else costs money...
Clover on a roadside verge, I think it's perfect. #wildflowerhour
Worst idea ever.
We really don't deserve this amazing planet.

Christopher Robin had a question to ask. “What would YOU do, if YOUR house was blown down, Piglet?
Before Piglet could think, Pooh answered for him. “He’d come and live with me, wouldn’t you, Piglet?” Piglet squeezed his paw.

# OTD 24October 1901, Annie Edson Taylor celebrated her 63rd birthday by going over Niagara Falls in a barrel and surviving.
The former schoolteacher hoped the stunt would bring fame and fortune. Her specially reinforced and padded barrel had even been tested beforehand with a cat inside, which survived.
Thousands gathered as Annie disappeared over the 160-foot Horseshoe Falls. She emerged bruised but alive, becoming the first person known to survive the Falls in a barrel.
The fortune never came, and Annie later warned others not to attempt it.

Emergency treatment of a snared lion.
It was tourists who first spotted him: a male who should have been in his prime, hobbled by a snare embedded tightly around his left forelimb.
Born Free and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) alerted our nearby Veterinary Unit, which works in the Meru landscape. Our team darted him with anaesthetic and removed the snare right there in the bush. The vet’s prognosis? A good chance of recovery, with continued monitoring to see how he heals.
Not every lion we reach can be saved, but we go to each one. Working with KWS, our Vet Teams have attended 252 injured lions to date, from spear wounds to human-wildlife conflict injuries. Your donations make this possible.

Good morning from the heart of Africa.
I cross villages on foot in the rain and under tropical heat with no salary and no organization behind me,because the Congo rainforest still breathes for all of us.
It stores vast carbon, shelters over 10,000 plant species.
This is awful beyond belief.

Hazel nuts were an important part of the diet of the ancient Irish and were quite possibly amongst the first things eaten by our ancestors when they arrived on these shores. And like other Autumn foods, such as the apple, they became a special part of Autumn and Samhain celebrations 🌰🎃
Gathered around a fire unmarried folk would give each of the nuts that they had collected the name of a potential lover and cast them into the flames.
The first nut to crack, or that which cracked the loudest, would reveal the name of their future love 🔥🍂

A young humpback whale, fatally injured by a krill trawler, is thrown away like trash.
An eminent marine biologist, Leonid Pshenichnov, a Ukrainian known for his kindness, who devoted his life to the research and protection of krill and marine life in the Antarctic, was illegally jailed for up to 20 years by Putin, because he tried to protect these whales with marine protected areas.
Dr Pshenichnov is 71 and seriously unwell. He will die in prison—and we must understand the implications of unlawfully jailing an innocent scientist whose only desire was to protect a vitally important marine ecosystem.
Trump's pal Putin is ruthless and merciless. Make no mistake:
Putin's crimes and future plans are far-reaching and Trump backing him will enable even worse genocidal, lawless behavior and make this world a more dangerous place for all.

We borrow it from our children.
