Fields Ranch West · Hole 5
Par 3 · 145
Shortest hole on the course. Shallowest green. Also the widest.
Two deep bunkers sit short. Four more wrap the left and the back.
Front-left folds into a deep depression right over those front bunkers. Miss long and you’re collecting between the back ones.
Prevailing wind in your face. Spin control matters.

12 million+ Americans travel to play golf each year.
Most go into a course they’ve never played blind.

Fields Ranch West. Hole 2.
Par 4. 436. Doglegs a little right.
Bunker on the right shortens it if you clear it. Miss that line and it plays longer. No bunkers by the green — you can run one on.
Big mound left of the green can kick a ball onto the putting surface. Greens break both ways off the slopes.

You know your home course cold, but a destination course you get GPS yards and a scorecard.
Not which side of that fairway fits your fade. Not which miss is dead. Not what holes to keep driver in the bag. Not how the green actually wants to be played.
That is the problem. Preround is a solution
A plan built for your game, hole by hole, before you tee off.

For the guy flying to a course he’s never seen.
The round is $500. Flight, hotel, the whole trip. Guessing clubs on the first tee is the dumb way to spend it.
A $3 book is the plan. First one is free.

Fields Ranch West. Hole 3.
First of five par 3s. Longest of them. 240 from the tips, but wind typically at your back
Green is angled right to left. Hole location decides the tee shot.
A ridge splits the putting surface. Bunkers front-left and over the green. Those bunkers own the left. Right is more open.
Left has a small punch bowl. Miss the sand and you can get close. Right looks safer, but the ground falls off into a tributary of Panther Creek, and the contours there are less friendly. Right-side pins play harder than they look.

Hole 4 is the #1 handicap 430 from one up tees. Bogey is a good score
Bunkers left and right off the tee. Fairway is still relatively wide. It plays significantly uphill and often into the wind, so the first shot has to be a good one.
Green sits just below the old homestead. Steep slope short-left. Favor the right on the approach. That's where the scrambling pars come from.

Stonebriar Fazio, hole 4 this weekend.
Par 4. 445 blue / 416 white. Slight dogleg left. Men’s #5 hdcp
Short hole if the wind isn’t in your face. Drive anywhere left of the bunkers. That’s the fairway, then an open shot at an undulated green.

Still wiring hole previews.
OSM + Mapbox for the destination list. Drag the landing zone. Cycle clubs off your actual carries.
Bigger lift than it looked. Progress this week: more courses getting the aerial + the play, not just the number.
Scraping OSM and Mapbox data this am for top destination courses.
We're working to include hole previews with target landing areas based on the hole specific strategy

Been working on/off all weekend dialing in the hole previews for @preroundgolf
You can drag the target landing area and cycle through different clubs based on your carry yardages

No gatekeeping. Playing @PursellFarms on Tuesday. Never seen it
I’ve got a skill built in Claude that captures as much publicly listed information as possible: architect, grass types, hole reviews, typical wind patterns, elevations, hole hdcp, tee to green yds, etc.
Here’s the kind of detail we captured for FarmLinks at Pursell Farms before building a single hole strategy👇
The DNA: Hurdzan-Fry design, Tripp Davis 2021 renovation. T-1 bent greens, fast and undulating. Fairways run multiple grass strains — your lies change hole to hole.
The defense: wide off the tee, but the par 3s decide your score.
#5 “Hang Time” drops 172ft tee-to-green — plays 2-3 clubs shorter than the number. Trust the drop or you fly it.
The danger: #4 (478y) and #12 (488y) are the card-wreckers. Lake Christine sits right off #10. Pennywinkle Creek runs the entire left of #14 — miss right or lose it.
The greens: fast bent, back-to-front. Below the hole everywhere.
We capture all of it — then map it to YOUR carries, shot shape, and misses.

First time at a new course? Preround has you covered.
I’m playing @hartranchgolf in Rapid City, SD today. Never seen it. Preround already knows my game and the course.
→ 2, 6, 8: 3W not driver — OB is the card-killer here
→ 5: 7W layup, bump-and-run on, water’s behind
→ Every green: stay below the hole
Built for my game.

It’s member-guest season. Everyone preps their swing. Nobody preps their strategy.
If you’re playing a course you’ve been to once (or zero times), you need more than “hit it far, find it, hit it again.” You need to know the misses before you make them.

Hole 8 at @DevilsTowerGolf . HCP 1. 411 yards.
Your yardage book should tell you the truth: bogey is the target here, not par.
3W stock draw, right-center fairway.
Then PW to center green — 143y plays like 156y adjusted, plenty of club.
Miss? 8-iron bump-and-run, two-putt, walk away with bogey.
