An earnest question for writers/editors: How do you feel about writers that write "I acknowledge my privilege" into their work? Is it heavy handed? Is it self-aware and honest? Is it needlessly apologetic? What do you think?

Can confirm that as someone who just attended AAS. The silencing of China-based scholars don't just harm them, but the discipline, and all of us who have much to learn from their experiences and knowledge.
Disturbing news from AAS2022 (Association of Asian Studies conference, this past weekend) that PRC-based scholars were blocked from participating by their government. Some gave "medical reasons" as reason for not joining on Zoom. The extent of this is not yet clear, but broad

There is an extremely violent attack on an Asian American in NYC & elsewhere on at least a weekly basis & it seems like we've collectively accept it as normal. There may be several causes but disturbingly racist elite rhetoric cannot be discounted. Thread below:

My latest: The uplifting San Francisco story you need right now. About a couple that has taken over Chinatown’s Great Star Theater where Bruce Lee used to watch his dad sing Chinese opera. They’ve massively rehabbed the building and will open this weekend. sfchronicle.com/local/heathe…

What a glorious donation of her family’s collection of glass plate negatives and prints, from @Lisa_See to the @TheHuntington! Los Angeles’ Old Chinatown (incidentally where this year’s Oscars ceremony was held), circa 1900 - before it was destroyed.

Can we normalize fuller bodied Asian women? Because I got my hips and round figure from my mom, and I don't hate it. But media keeps showing Asians being tiny and if you're not that, it's like we're not socially acceptable. It's 2021, let's update. Both is beautiful.
