Note that this review is very cautious in estimating the toxicant exposure reductions when switching from cigarettes to e-cigs. e.g. E-cigs emit no CO. Never smokers often have an exhaled CO=2ppm. Smokers often have a CO level of 16ppm. So a reduction to 2ppm should be 100%. But here it is estimated as only 87.5% reduction, not accounting for background/endogenous levels. Despite this cautious approach, the study demonstrates large reductions in a wide range of toxicants when switching from cigarettes to e-cigs.
A new systematic review and meta-analysis published in Archives of Toxicology, covering 60 studies, found substantial reductions in exposure to #harmful #chemicals among #smokers who switched completely to e-cigarettes.

Switching completely from cigarettes to e-cigarettes: all ten pooled toxicant exposure biomarkers were lower, including the nitrosamine NNN by 92% and NNAL by 61%. Reductions among dual users were smaller.

This is exactly the kind of evidence that matters when discussing tobacco harm reduction.
A new systematic review in Archives of Toxicology examined 60 human biomarker studies and found that people who completely switched from cigarettes to e-cigarettes showed large and consistent reductions in exposure to many of the toxicants most strongly associated with smoking. The pooled reductions included about 90% for benzene, 82% for 1,3-butadiene, 84% for acrylonitrile, 79% for exhaled carbon monoxide and 92% for NNN, a tobacco-specific nitrosamine. Nicotine delivery, meanwhile, was broadly maintained.
That combination is important. It means smokers were able to maintain nicotine while dramatically reducing exposure to many of the harmful products created by burning tobacco.

Genomic sequencing shows that the Ebola virus from Nigeria’s recently reported only imported case is highly similar to that from Kenya’s @MOH_Kenya reported first imported case, differing by only one mutation.
