More than five centuries ago, Christopher Columbus set sail into the unknown, bringing the traditions of Western civilization with him and opening the path that led to the American nation. He showed valor, adventure, and ingenuity. His voyage set in motion the forces that produced the freest and most just country in history.
Today we honor that legacy. We refuse to let radical extremists erase his story or tear down his monuments. A statue of Columbus now stands on White House grounds as a clear reminder that we do not apologize for our heritage or our heroes.
Columbus Day also belongs to Americans of Italian heritage , who have strengthened this country with their faith, hard work, and love of nation. We celebrate the inheritance of courage, faith, and culture he left us, and we reject any effort to replace this day with a narrative that treats Western civilization and American history as original sin.
The President has formally proclaimed October 12, 2026, as Columbus Day and called on Americans to observe it with appropriate ceremonies while displaying the flag in his honor. That is exactly what we should do. We do not rewrite history to flatter the present. We remember the men and women who built this nation and we defend their place in it.
