An AI can give a convincing human answer. That doesn’t mean a human gave it.
@mayankagrawal and @mdahardy built @proofofhuman to look at how a respondent behaves throughout a session, not just what they submit.
Typing patterns, corrections, device and network signals all help build a clearer picture.
No puzzles required.
Because sometimes, how a response comes together matters just as much as the answer itself.

SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios.
The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios.
Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said.
Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior.

Our bot detection benchmark reached the front page of Hacker News (@hackernews) yesterday! 🚀
We tested five leading bot detection systems against modern AI agents, including CloakBrowser, Chromium, Grok, and Perplexity.
Proof of Human accurately detected between 95–100% across all five adversaries, with most alternatives specifically struggling against AI-native browsers.
We're excited to contribute open research to this problem -- and grateful to the Hacker News community for the discussion!

The honor of a lifetime watching @MayankAgrawal & @mdahardy work thru the “trough of sorrow” & come out on the other side w/ @ProofOfHuman.
Human verification is becoming fundamental internet infrastructure. 🧱
What began as an effort to build better infrastructure for online surveys and data collection has grown into something larger.
Today, we're officially launching Proof of Human on @ycombinator.
Our new name reflects our mission: to preserve human trust on the internet in the age of AI.
As AI becomes increasingly capable, knowing whether there's a real human on the other side is becoming fundamental infrastructure.
If you're working on a difficult human verification problem, we'd love to hear from you.
Welcome to the Proof of Human era.

We're excited to officially launch our rebrand to Proof of Human.
If you can't tell who's human, the incentive for many online interactions and transactions goes to zero. Proof-of-human technology will therefore become foundational infrastructure as the AI revolution continues.
I've spent the last year looking at thousands of human and AI behavioral traces and obsessively improving our models. If human identity is an important part of your product I'd love to talk!

The internet is losing the ability to know who is human.
Today, we're launching Proof of Human on @ycombinator.
As AI becomes increasingly skilled at solving puzzles, recognizing images, and producing the right answers, knowing whether there's a human on the other side becomes fundamental infrastructure.
That’s why we're building Proof of Human: to verify humans continuously, invisibly, and without any interruptions.
I'm incredibly proud of what our team has built so far, and grateful to the customers, researchers, and friends who have helped us get here.
And we're just getting started.
Welcome to the @proofofhuman era.

What role do psychologists play in our age of AI?
This question was on a lot of students' minds when I visited Yale's Department of Psychology last week.
For me, I think the distinction between AI capability and humanness is important to understand as AI models become increasingly capable. It's an intuitive notion for people who studied psychology, but often ignored in traditional AI circles.
And, some of the clinical psychology students in the audience were interested in the effects AI chatbots can have on people's mental health. Many people engage with AI for therapeutic help, but how effective are they compared to traditional mental health professionals?
How do you think psychology should play a role in AI?

Am I hearing @proofofhuman x @pontifex collab??
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Excited to be talking @YalePsychology later this week.
I'll be presenting recent research from the @proofofhuman team on the Process Turing Test -- how we can robustly distinguish between humans and machines.
Hope to you see you there :)
Proof of Human is coming to @Yale this Thursday, September 24th!
Our co-founder and CEO, @mayankagrawal will present a new framework for distinguishing humans from AI through behavioral dynamics, including patterns in perception, control, and decision-making.
Drawing on process-tracing data from cognitive tasks, the talk will explore how behavioral signals can reveal computational signatures unique to human cognition and establish a more robust foundation for proof of personhood.

Astra is indeed very good at solving CAPTCHAs. Previously, models struggled with tasks that required real-time perception and control - like identifying and clicking on the highest jumping chicken - but Astra can solve these out of the box.

to follow up on vaguepost:
I'm increasingly thinking about this 24/7. We're building it broadly under the @proofofhuman thesis.
a few different angles we build, write, and talk about:
-- AI vs human, AI vs bot, junk/data quality filter
-- Turing Test, CAPTCHA, our thesis: process vs. output (arxiv.org/pdf/2605.06524)
-- text analysis and behavioral biometrics all the way to document verification and password management
