Hey all,
It's been a while since I've used my Mastodon account, but feel free to join me there. @propersquid@mastodon.social
If you're new to Mastodon, let me know and I can help set you up. I'll also still be here on Twitter as well.
I'm starting to try to wrap my head around using an object store to store data (meshes, rigs, textures, caches, etc) in a studio. Does anyone have thoughts on that? The only thing I'm considering as a big negative is DCCs work on files and folders.
I rebuilt my website! At least, mostly. Check it out: propersquid.com
The theme is Deep though, and the generator is Zola.
There might be a few things that I have left to bring from the old site. I swapped it over in a couple hours.
Ahhhh! I'm super stoked. I wrote an extension for Postgres in Rust, and it was surprisingly easy! The extension: github.com/scott-wilson/pg_f…
So, I'm looking into how to implement a "standard" studio pipeline in #blender in case I can convince my studio to add Blender to the pipeline. If anyone has any feedback, then that'd be appreciated. Here's my thoughts/investigations:
I'm guessing that'll give me "do things at startup" functionality as well... unless there's another way to do that. For example, userSetup.py in Maya and menu.py/init.py in Nuke.
I'm really excited to announce what we've been doing at the ASWF. Hopefully we'll be able to see more @rustlang in studios.
The ASWF is excited to announce our new Rust Working Group, and the initial release of a Rust binding for #OpenEXR. Read more and get involved here: aswf.io/news/academy-softwar… #rustlang
Oh man, I'm super excited! There's a lot of interest in creating an open source studio pipeline through the ASWF. Still really early days, but I'm really pumped.
Probably boring to most, but I'm slowly transitioning my studio to Python 3. I'm excited to be one step closer to being off Python 2, while it has been a great tool for as long as it has.
Hopefully next big milestone is getting off of CentOS 7.
My patch was accepted to #blender! developer.blender.org/rB74d5…
Giving a ton of credit to @jerbotnet. He got the fire started, and all I did was some cooking.
