My piece on the recent FCRA changes The desired goal is to be left with a civil society that is subservient, not adversarial—it should deliver services the state no longer wants to provide but raise no uncomfortable questions about the government itself. caravanmagazine.in/law/fcra-…

The Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan carried out a social audit of the ongoing SIR process at Trilokpuri, Delhi. In four booths, volunteers followed up on 1,236 deleted names from the electoral rolls, going house to house to verify the Election Commission's grounds for deletion. On 27 October, the grassroots organisation held a public hearing to present their findings. They alleged that 416 names—more than a third of their sample—were wrongfully deleted. Residents could verify their status, and people who stand to lose their voting rights spoke out. Noting that the election manual already provides for this type of exercise to be carried out every time voters are excluded, the MKSS demanded that such social audits be conducted in each polling booth of the country, at least three months before an election. UP, Uttarakhand and now Karnataka...
The skeletons keep tumbling out, thanks to real journalists like @rishitaakhanna. So in Karnataka, @ECISVEEP officials submitted least 61,059 Form-7 applications seeking the deletion of names with no mention of the reason for deletion. State govt must demand action @DKShivakumar

The court doing everything it can to keep @SauravDassss and Ranka out of the public gaze. Ridiculous. They must be released.
We are still at SEM court, waiting for court to dictate order. There is no reason to extend judicial custody. Today also no argument presented by PP on law. All his arguments were mere assumptions. Absolute waste of time of SEM court. Saurav and Ashutosh must be released.

Let the rule of law prevail for once. Release @SauravDassss & @AshutoshRanka!
Saurav and Ashutosh are scheduled to be produced before the new SEM at 2 PM today. Their judicial custody ends today. I sincerely hope there will be no further delays - no IO switching off phone for hours, no threatening messages, no hearing at 6PM, no tyre puncture to be not able to produce them. Basically no “Upar se orders”

Several protesters who were detained, near Mandi House and Lady Hardinge hospital, have been kept inside the Connaught Place Police Station for hours. The police refused to let anyone inside, and a crowd of relatives, friends, journalists and lawyers grew outside the main gate. A small group was eventually let in after a long argument, and women detainees have now been released. Videos by Maya Palit (@mayapalit1), Surabhi Kanga (@surabhikanga) and Puja Sen (@psen9)

Eight women who were being detained at Connaught Place Police Station have been released, but only after signing a document acknowledging that, while they have not been arrested, they might be questioned, or accused, in regard to an FIR that is being lodged. For Amana and Chandana, students from Delhi University who are not affiliated to any organisation, this was their first experience of getting detained. 5 days judicial custody for what? The govt is making all attempts to crush people's dissent and ensure this resistance vanishes. Sending @Cockroachisback 's Saurav and Ashutosh away is nothing but an attempt at that!
Saurav and Ashutosh sent to 5 days judicial custody. Ajinkya released on personal bond. Same grounds of arrest. Got to know that SEM has track record of punishing protesters. Coward Sarkar.
