“The UAW rejects any escalation on Canada, a country with strong unions and labor standards,” the union’s president, Shawn Fain, said in a statement. “If we’re going to increase tariffs anywhere, it should be on countries where automakers continue to offshore jobs because they can pay workers $3 an hour, force them to work in unsafe conditions, and crack down on independent unions.” politico.com/news/2026/08/26…

No one cares about the intricacies of how government systems work, least of all people who need to access services. Good on Sioux Lookout for funding system navigators right out of their municipal tax base. I look forward to the efficiency & effectiveness report.

Former Brant County Mayor Ron Eddy has died. An old-school, glad-handing, baby-kissing (& lady-kissing) politician, Ron knew Brant like the back of his hand. He was South Dumfries Reeve, County Warden, MPP and then Mayor until 2018. I used to say "No kissing the reporters, Ron."

More than 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces members served during Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. 158 never came home, and many others returned carrying physical and psychological wounds that continue long after service ends. Today, and everyday, we Remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we honour the courage of all who served, and we stand with the Veterans and families who live every day with the lasting impacts of that mission. As an organization committed to supporting Veterans of all eras, our focus remains on Remembrance, respect, and support — for the fallen, for those who served and returned, and for their loved ones. To learn more about Canada’s longest war and the people who served, we invite you to explore this interactive story from Legion Magazine: legionmagazine.com/afghanist…

While municipalities manage a lot, they're not responsible for everything. Understanding who does what helps you take action where it counts. #LocalGovWeek #LocalGovernment #OnPoli #OnMuni #CdnPoli

We are thankful to see the support from our mayoral colleagues in the U.S. as we all work to help protect our municipalities from the economic impacts of pending tariffs.
USCM passed an emergency resolution today urging the Trump administration to protect and promote trade relations with Canada and Mexico. Mayors stress that the pending tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods would inflict severe economic harm on American businesses and consumers.

Across Canada, #CDNMuni are rising to national challenges of housing and homelessness, infrastructure, climate change, and more – despite being constrained by an outdated fiscal model that simply wasn’t designed for the realities of 2023. It’s critical for the future of our communities that all orders of government work together to tackle these issues.
