I genuinely don’t understand how ordinary people are supposed to afford assisted living for their aging parents. Some facilities charge upwards of $10,000 A MONTH. That’s $120,000 a year just to make sure your parents are properly cared for. How is the average family supposed to afford that?

It recently came to my attention that one of my undergraduate students had never heard of Elizabeth Taylor. Over 25 years of teaching, it’s glaring how little “cultural literacy” today’s youth possess. Most literary, musical, & cultural references are totally lost on them.
