really weird definition of freedom here!
Cool new report from @CatoInstitute with an updated methodology on freedom for US states. Only two states get an overall "A" grade: Arizona and Montana (both gets A's in personal freedom, B's in econ freedom) Only governor with an "A" grade overall: @GovGianforte!

he’s hitting notes that i largely agree with but there just,,, isn’t a lot of concrete policy here. what is a “fair tax system” what departments are “being consolidated” what are some concrete cuts
Chicago needs a budget that reflects the priorities of working families, not politics. We must #demandbetter.

id really love to see a white paper! a mock budget! how does this conflict with ie his plan to hire 1000 cops? will it require closing schools? are there any services to cut? what about refinancing debt obligations?

it was an incredibly unsophisticated national suicide attempt which managed to not hit any vital organs (thus far) but nonetheless has done a ton of damage
America did not dodge a bullet. America was pretty squarely hit by a bullet which tanked global opinion and soft power, strained relationships with allies, delayed economic growth, punched science in the face, tore families apart, exacerbated wars and has fought against the buildout of renewables while simultaneously clawing away more land for oil. One can go on and on for hours. America was hit by the bullet, it just hasn’t died.

have to imagine dems are seeing the same/similar numbers but are far too traumatized and neurotic to treat them as true
The GOP - more than Dems, even - are behaving like they are seeing nightmare scenario numbers internally

this project by itself just about equals the entire total of new homes built in the whole city for 2025
Mayor Johnson, Commissioner Boatright and Ald. Waguespack joined JDL Development & Kayne Anderson today to break ground on Foundry Park, a 31-acre, $3 billion mixed-use complex in Lincoln Park. Plans include 3,737 homes, 970,000 commercial square feet and 8+ acres of open space.

strong good governance take of mine is that congressmen should make literally 10x their current salary and in exchange be completely barred from earning any income (even on investments or rental properties) from any other sources
It's unpopular to say, but we now need to pay our politicians more. Take the US House. Their salaries have been frozen since 2009. In real terms, they've gone from a very respectable $300k to barely half that, $174k. That's much less than many could make in the private sector.

this is straight up the first time i have seen a single candidate in the mayoral race get down to brass tacks on spending and the budget (& imo taking the ernst & young recs should be basically a nonstarter for the race)
We all want the same thing. It’s time to be honest on how we get there. #chicago #mayor #Budget2027

the north ave & division buses are so unreliable any time i have to get from the red line to approx the blue line on division i usually walk the whole length without seeing one bus
Salt Shed's greatest achievement is being in West Town yet somehow having similar transit convenience as Tinley Park

american’s public land-grant universities are one of the most important (& underrated) factors of our nation’s greatness and i’ve always said that
tony judt’s famous paragraph about one of the most distinctive features of america may not have as much basis in reality for much longer
