1st RHD confirmation in NWT & affecting wild snowshoe hares in Canada. Northern Alberta also seeing die-offs & RHD also confirmed in Fort Nelson, British Columbia snowshoe hares.
Help limit the spread of rabbit haemorrhagic disease, recently confirmed in snowshoe hares in the South Slave and Dehcho. The disease is not known to cause illness in humans. However, infected meat, hides and remains can spread the virus to other rabbits and hares, including pet and farmed rabbits. - Do not harvest or eat hares that appear sick or are found dead. - Wear gloves when handling harvested animals, wash your hands and clean equipment afterward. - Do not collect or move sick or dead hares unless directed by ECC. - Keep pets away from hare carcasses. - Wash your hands and change potentially contaminated clothing and footwear before caring for domestic rabbits. Freezing does not kill the virus. Report sick or dead hares and ask for handling or disinfection advice through your local ECC Regional Office. gnwt.ca/your-government/cont…

🇿🇦🐰 SOUTH AFRICA, YOUR RABBITS NEED A VOICE! South Africa's proposed Rabbit Meat Regulations have raised serious animal welfare concerns. But here's something important. Our petition has attracted more than 8,000 supporters worldwide, yet only around 7% of recorded signers are from South Africa. We need more South African voices. Rabbits are intelligent, sensitive animals capable of experiencing fear, pain and distress. They deserve meaningful protection, not to be treated simply as units of production. 🐰 Please help us reach South African animal lovers, rabbit rescues, veterinary professionals and welfare organisations. ✍️ SIGN AND SHARE: c.org/JyXQMtDWkf 💚 Already signed? Share with five people who haven't. A global campaign. A South African decision. Every voice matters. #HopToSaveRabbits #SouthAfrica #RabbitWelfare #StopRabbitAbattoirs

On Nov. 1, a large swath of Canada did away with seasonal time change and shifted to year-round daylight time instead. Experts are warning about the health consequences of this move, which will bring darker mornings through the winter. For people in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Northwest Territories and parts of Northwestern Ontario, the shift means no more adjusting every spring and fall – plus one more hour of light in the evenings. But for all the perks, the move comes at a cost. Read more: theglobeandmail.com/life/art…
