TBT teaser: What the Brain Is Already Telling Us: Computational Brain Mapping to Transform Epilepsy Care
I put more weight on the number of Nobel Prize laureates affiliated with a university than on its Ivy League label.

Dude, I love scrutiny and tough questions. The manuscript is under peer review; I’ll share more once any embargo concerns are resolved. Happy to chat privately humanbrainmapping.net/contac…. or at our AES poster: Denver, CO aesnet.org/AES-annual-meetin…. My best fellows are the ones I’ve asked to teach me.

r≈0.93: median across minute fits versus full-recording estimates. Encouraging; single-minute validation/results underway. Fascinating prospect. See our sensorimotor mapping work using short intracranial EEG recordings.

Late Breaking: Congratulations to HBM fellow Dr. Bola Eldoqsh on the acceptance of his 1/f EEG study as a late-breaking abstract at AES 2026!
Provisional running title: 1/f EEG in Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and PNES.
Among other findings, median 1/f estimates from one-minute EEG segments strongly correlated with estimates from full-duration EEG recordings, r ≈ 0.93 for the aperiodic exponent.
A step in the right direction toward more efficient EEG analysis and optimizing epilepsy practice through computational signal processing and AI.

Cigdem is on a roll.
After her recent NEST faculty work at Cleveland Clinic, there is another reason to celebrate: Dr. Cigdem Isitan-Alkawadri’s nomination for the Allegheny County Medical Society’s 2026 Ralph C. Wilde Leadership Award.
I have cared for many patients alongside Cigdem, and I can attest to how highly they speak of her. Amid a busy clinical schedule and life’s ups and downs, recognition from a colleague means a great deal.
Congratulations, Cigdem, and thank you to Dr. Holly Appleberry for the nomination. Well deserved.

The next test for AI in neurology: a new patient, a different hospital, a decision that matters. Our Frontiers AI in Neurology collection, Volume II, is open for submissions. What would it take for your model to help in the clinic?

Behind every brain map is a person: memories to keep, words to speak, a life to live. That is why the science & records matter.

Twenty years in science, and the company still surprises and amuses me.
Explorers, rebels, alchemists—and a few familiar faces in the mirror.

concerns? Weird, at least. Absolutely exhilarating.
Artificial-intelligence systems can generate hypotheses, design experiments and analyse data — but humans still need to decide what makes sense
