Erfan Soltani’s execution has been postponed. But his family says they have not slept. They stayed awake until dawn during Iran’s morning call to prayer, when most executions are carried out, fearing every moment could be his last. They describe Erfan as “the most loving brother” and “his mother’s best friend.” Through tears, a family member asked: “How can anyone have the heart to put a rope round the neck of such a kind child and send him to die?” She continued: “He is someone so dear to my heart, a brave child, a child who would never resort to violence, an incredibly calm and wonderful soul who means more to me than I can put into words. Please, world, help save our child.” Human rights groups confirm that over 18,000 protesters have been arrested since the start of the uprising in Iran.
