There's certainly a "compassion" component to Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) laws in Canada. Some people are in terrible pain, with terminal diseases and no quality of life. Seeking help to end their suffering is their choice.
But I also think that our government is pushing a nefarious agenda with MAiD. Canada's healthcare is broken. The delivery costs are rising, and the population is aging..... you do the math.

El Salvador is rightly famed for its strides on public order, but most people don’t grasp the brutal extent of previous gang rule or the complex dividends peace affords. All kinds of mundane and essential public goods re-materialize now that people can walk around, ride transit, and go about their lives without being terrorized.
This historic square used to be patrolled by warring gangs, and housed an informal economy of corrugated-tin shanties where subsistence street vendors forfeited much of their meager income to “protection” rackets. No formal economy is possible if thugs might burn or smash or sabotage any capital improvement you make. Now, there are ordinary shops lining this downtown area — and even early Christmas decorations.

Como tantos guatemaltecos y migrantes, huimos de una guerra que amenazaba la vida de mi papá y cruzamos dos fronteras —mojados.
Mi papá y mis hermanos mayores trabajaban de madrugada a noche. Mi mamá, Lucín, se levantaba a las 3 de la mañana para ir a inmigración e iniciar el proceso que hoy me permite votar. No hablaba inglés y hablaba muy poco español.
Hoy mi voto honra su esfuerzo y rechaza a quienes criminalizan a los migrantes que trabajan honradamente para sostener a sus familias.
Si puedes votar también tú en EE. UU., sal a votar. Con ello honras a quienes vinieron antes de ti.

Since you are already in Haiti helping address our gang crisis, I have two requests.
First, before your mission ends, can you help us strengthen our border security? Haiti cannot continue fighting gangs while illegal firearms and ammunition continue entering the country. We need lasting systems to intercept weapons, disrupt trafficking networks, and protect our borders long after foreign security forces leave. I am pretty sure you are aware of the recent UN report.
Second, before you leave, can you work with our government to establish a long-term trade agreement between Haiti and El Salvador?
Haiti needs to diversify its trading partners. We cannot continue spending over a billion dollars annually on imports from a neighboring country while facing persistent concerns about cross-border trafficking, insecurity, and hostility toward Haitians.
Our young men should be building businesses, working in factories, developing infrastructure, and contributing to our economy. Instead, too many are being recruited into armed groups and handed weapons that destroy their own communities.
We need more than temporary security operations. We need economic partnerships, job creation, secure borders, and a future where our young people have more opportunities than weapons.
President Bukele, if El Salvador can help Haiti strengthen its security institutions and become a serious trading partner, that relationship could have an impact long after this mission ends.
Help us build something that lasts. Haiti needs security today, but it also needs economic independence tomorrow.
