I’m just a dude but I feel like this latest election cycle might drive home a point that while people care about culture war issues and we do really enjoy fighting about them on the internet…what Americans REALLY want is to not keep spending so much more money on their stuff.

I donated about $45k last year, mostly to malaria net distributions and seasonal malaria chemoprevention. If this is not improving the lives of the affected people, I will obviously donate somewhere different this year. What's your recommendation.

Mehdi, I'm sorry, you don't get to say racist stuff about Ramaswamy or Patel, any more than Bo French gets to say racist stuff about Indian UT fans. Being a leftist doesn't give you a free pass to be a racist.

It seems untenable to make TPUSA off limits to criticism like this when it continues to be a major player in Republican politics. They vocally supported Paxton during the TX primary, for example. Making every critique of them now about Charlie is weaksauce.
Chris this is horseshit. This has nothing to do with Charlie Kirk. It has to do with the TPUSA today. I didn't mention Kirk, Have not spoke ill of him since he was murdered, and I think 14 months later, it's perfectly legitimate to criticize TPUSA and the extended MAGA industrial complex -- which you are a part of and occasional apologist for --for the utter and complete ruin of the GOP and the failure to execute on the things TPUSA & Co. promised. You guys have repelled more young people and voters then you have attracted. You discredited ideas I care about dearly. And you have claimed to be doing it in the name of a more "serious" understanding of politics and power. Nixonmaxxing my ass. I am sorry if people sincerely took this as an insult to Kirk or mockery of his heinous murder. But they are mistaken. I am not sorry for calling out the bullshit opportunism and bad faith of people projecting false motives on me in order to have a comfortable talking point to distract from their abject political and ideological failures on display this week.

Outside of Talarico, who managed to run a “big tent” lefty-populist campaign, there was a pretty strong correlation between being more progressive and under performing in these midterms. Which is something Dems should probably pay close attention to!
The worst-performing Democrats in competitive Senate races were the candidates Bernie endorsed. (link in next tweet, no paywall)

The Free Press lying is bad. El-Sayed did not give "his victory speech in Arabic." If you don't like him, make your case, but I hate the attitude of "He's bad, so we can say anything, even if it isn't true." (And many replies clearly believed her lie.) Just say true things.

There's a lot to focus on right now, but "The richest man to ever live just spent $200 million to support the Republican Senate candidate in Texas, and his man lost by double-digits in a statewide wipeout" is a completely insane sentence. Put another way, the most expensive US Senate race before 2020 was $200 million. *One guy* spent that amount in Texas, and it doesn't seem to have made any difference. It might have hurt in a kind of Streisand effect way, in that the spending level was seen as obscene to people sympathetic to the argument that billionaires shouldn't "buy" elections. The implications here seem pretty interesting! Especially re the limits of billionaire political power and/or the diminishing returns of money in politics.

In 1910, the infant mortality rate was 10% and life expectancy was in the 50s. I'm so sick of this braindead nonsense.

I didn’t realize just HOW distorted it was until the televised execution thing. Dragged for DAYS over being like, “you know, this seems like a bad idea,” only to find out that, off this godforsaken hellscape site, it was like 80-20 against in the real world.
I've been saying it for years, this place is a silo, like most text-based social platforms. there is no "repeal the 19th" cohort. there is no "100 million deportations" cohort. there is no "everyone hates Indian Americans" cohort. people on this website have been "yes and"ing themselves into fake golden ages and meme wars and none of it is real. None of it.

Last night, Sen. Andy Kim (D-NJ) told me something I keep thinking about: While Democrats may want to celebrate, they need to remember that this isn't a sporting event. This is Americans sending the strongest signal possible that they are in pain, and hurting, and want help. Now Congress needs to answer that call. It was powerful stuff, and if the party is smart they'll follow his instincts.

Darline Graham never had any business running for Senate. I'm genuinely sorry for her loss. But it was clear from the outset that she didn't have even a basic grasp of major issues. I don't even really understand why she put herself through this.

The great thing about being politically homeless is I that don't have to twist myself into a pretzel to excuse corruption and incompetence because "the other guy is worse." Nor do I feel the need to act like we will "lose the Republic" if I don't get my way. Just embarrassing.

Wembanyama’s line that he can’t tell you what it’s like to live in America because his existence is so privileged and unusual is one of the more refreshing athlete answers I’ve seen.
“Life is so short, I don't-- I don't even want to waste it being somebody else, you know? Simple as that,” says Victor Wembanyama after a blood clot in his shoulder ended his second NBA season early. cbsn.ws/4A0ospk
