Jon Stewart can't believe there are pundits who think the Dems went too "woke." All they did was copy Republicans!

Wow.
The Russian authorities are requesting a six-year prison sentence for a paediatrician accused of criticising the war in Ukraine during a private appointment with a patient and his mother. ⤵️

Sublime.
A prankster sent a letter to schools in the Voronezh region of Russia under the guise of a demand from the ruling 'United Russia' party to make and wear tinfoil hats to protect against NATO satellite radiation. 7 schools complied with the demand, 2 of them involved children in creating the tinfoil hats.

A few interesting theories pre-election and how they turned out... 1. Turnout would drop from 2020... Ended up likely being true nationally. Raw number was probably true, though still votes to count. Among voter eligible population, it was def true. (Note this differs in the swing states, though I'm not sure someone suggested it would apply there too...) 2. The electoral vote/pop vote bias in GOP favor would close big time... Ended up being very very true. It will be probably be about a point or less... Possibility even eliminated all together. 3. The polls would be more accurate this time around... That was def true in the swing states... Miss was far less than the historical norm. Still, the error benefitted Trump again and that was the ball game. (So part true and part false...) Side note: there were individual polls that nailed it, which is key because it means you really couldn't be taken by surprise. 4. Age/race polarization would decline and educational polarization would climb... I heard a lot from a lot of folks (particularly those with a vested interest) that Trump's gains with voters of color and young voters showing up in an average of pre-election polls was a mirage... Seems like the pre-election polls were right on in this regard, though we'll see what Pew, Catalist, etc. show... 5. Edited to add this one... Despite the close polls, one of the candidates would score a relative electoral college blowout of 300+ electoral votes... This was true. Idea behind this was simple: any poll miss would apply to pretty much all the swing states. That is, the errors would be correlated. Correct.

Still seeing "Harris couldn't turn out millions of Biden voters," and the count in swing states says that's not true. In Wisconsin, Harris got 37k more votes than Biden. The most votes of any Dem candidate since Obama in 2008. She lost bc Trump added 77k more votes since 2020.

The Trump Tax
As Donald Trump readies to return to the Oval Office, U.S. retailers that depend on foreign suppliers are prepared to pass along the cost of his proposed import tariffs to consumers, potentially leading to higher prices for a range of products. cbsn.ws/48Lnwcc

Richard Haass’s proposals for redefining victory in Ukraine underscore a troubling trend in American strategic thinking —a retreat fueled not by strategic recalibration but by an underlying reluctance to confront aggression decisively. If the United States considers it unrealistic to support Ukraine to achieve its „victory plan”, then it inherently lacks the credibility to establish any new “red lines” that might actually deter Putin. Haass suggests a tempered, cautious approach to avoid greater entanglement, but recent history reveals the dangers of such timidity. American deterrence faltered in 2022 when U.S. paratroopers landed not in Hostomel near Kyiv, close to the heart of the Russian invasion, but far back in Rzeszów, Poland. The choice reflected Washington’s fear of direct conflict with Russia—a decision rooted in risk aversion rather than a demonstration of resolve. So long as American strategy is driven by fear of adversaries rather than commitment to defending global norms, U.S. deterrence will continue to erode worldwide. This trajectory risks leading to a future where America’s enemies dictate the time and place of confrontation, further emboldened by U.S. inaction and equivocation. What Haass ultimately proposes is not a strategy for maintaining American strength but a strategy of decline, a concession of American power and influence. By advocating a stance that shies away from decisively supporting Ukraine’s ambitions, Haass implicitly paves the way for America’s gradual retreat as a global power. This approach signals to allies and adversaries alike that American resolve is conditional, reactive, and willing to compromise. Should this become the guiding doctrine, it would mark the beginning of a diminished U.S. role on the world stage, with repercussions not only for Ukraine but for global stability.

MOUNT PLEASANT, PA: “Not a good look. This is dark.” Local folks react to a Halloween Parade float of someone in a Trump costume and men with sniper rifles leading a Kamala look-a-like in chains tied to a rope behind the vehicle. 😳 Fire Dept’s apology: facebook.com/share/1UN34Pw6N…
