The voice behind Boo, Riley and Kira Turns 30 Years Old! 🎂🎙️
Mary Gibbs became part of Pixar history at a very young age as the voice of Boo in Monsters, Inc. Because she was only a toddler during recording, the filmmakers often followed her around with a microphone to capture her natural reactions, helping create the laughs, cries, and tiny bursts of dialogue that made Boo such a memorable character.
Her original recordings have continued to live on well beyond the film, appearing in Monsters, Inc. games, Kingdom Hearts III, and even being reused for Baby Riley in Inside Out. Gibbs later returned to voice acting as Janessa Jensen in the audio drama Heroes of Extinction, adding a new chapter to a career forever connected to one of Pixar’s most beloved characters.
Her notable roles include:
• Boo (Monsters, Inc. / related games / Kingdom Hearts III)
• Baby Riley Andersen (Inside Out)
• Baby Kiara (The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride)
• Charlotte (The Last Guest)
• Janessa Jensen (Heroes of Extinction)
• Train Station Kid (Tracy)
Happy 30th birthday, Mary Gibbs! More than two decades after Monsters, Inc., Boo’s laughter, curiosity, and unforgettable little voice remain instantly recognizable to generations of Pixar fans. 🎂💗"

Cassandra Wilson, the legendary singer, songwriter and producer whose genre-crossing career earned her two Grammy Awards, has passed away at 70. Her longtime manager said Wilson passed peacefully at home in her native Jackson, Mississippi, surrounded by family and close friends.
Wilson became internationally acclaimed for expanding jazz beyond traditional boundaries, weaving blues, folk, R&B, country and pop into her music.
Her landmark albums included Blue Light ’Til Dawn, New Moon Daughter, and Loverly, with the latter two earning Grammy wins for Best Jazz Vocal Album. In 2001, Time famously named her “America’s Best Singer.”
Her remarkable career also included collaborations with artists such as Wynton Marsalis, The Roots, Steve Coleman, Angélique Kidjo, and Terence Blanchard. In 2015, she released Coming Forth by Day, a deeply personal tribute to Billie Holiday, and in 2022 she was named an NEA Jazz Master, one of American jazz’s highest honors.
Rest in aradise, Cassandra Wilson. She never allowed jazz to be confined to one sound, and generations of musicians will continue hearing the possibilities she opened. 🕊️

We just lost another legend today 😔
Anime just lost a veteran behind Akira, Death Note, Naruto and today’s biggest isekai titles.
Director and animator Yūji Yanase has passed away at 59. His death was announced today by the production committees behind The Insipid Prince’s Furtive Grab for the Throne and The World’s Strongest Rearguard, two currently airing anime he directed. Their staffs expressed deep gratitude for his work and sorrow over his sudden passing.
Yanase spent decades working across nearly every level of anime production. His extensive credits included:
• Akira — In-Between Animation
• Death Note — Key Animation
• Hellsing — Animation Director
• Chobits — Animation Director
• Naruto: Shippuden — Episode Direction
• Pokémon XY — Episode Direction
• Macross 7 — Key Animation
• Aria the Animation — Animation Director
• Symphogear — Animation Director
• Saint Seiya Omega — Animation Director
He later became especially known as a series director, leading anime including In Another World With My Smartphone, If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord, By the Grace of the Gods, In the Land of Leadale, My Unique Skill Makes Me OP Even at Level 1, I’ll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History, and Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra. His directing career began with Himegoto in 2014.
His final chapter is especially bittersweet, with two series under his direction still airing when news of his passing was announced.
