Toph can be rude, stubborn, disrespect authority and constantly talk back, but it’s seen as funny and part of her personality. When Korra does the same thing, she’s suddenly arrogant and immature. Aang loses his temper and makes emotional decisions, but people understand his trauma. Korra does it, and she’s labelled hot-headed and reckless. Iroh constantly lectures people and gives unsolicited advice, but he’s wise. Katara does it, and she’s bossy and annoying. Zuko’s anger and aggression are part of his character development, but Korra’s similar behaviour is used as evidence that she’s a bad Avatar. Kyoshi can be ruthless and use extreme force, and people call her a badass. Korra takes an aggressive approach to a problem, and suddenly she’s too violent. It’s interesting how the same traits can be considered personality, strength or good writing in one character, but flaws in another.
