They tax jobs out of existence then whine about the consequences. You cannot hate them enough.
I am deeply concerned that Poundland jobs are at risk here in constituency of #PaisleyRenfrewshireNorth in #Braehead with many constituents impacted.
Poundland has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators, putting 11,000 jobs at risk across more than 600 stores and distribution centres across the UK.
I welcome PM Andy Burham's support for Poundland workers & like him, I question why the company's owners chose not to accept a viable solvent offer which @UsdawUnion say could have prevented this outcome. This situation was entirely predictable by @Poundland according to the Shop Workers Trade Union who have been monitoring the situation closely for some time.
I have reached out to parliamentary colleagues to explore what options are available to assist and I hope to meet with USDAW trade union who represent Poundland workers to discuss the local issues in more detail.

Some things that British voters have forgotten.
🔴Making a profit is no vice.
🔴Inequality is not evil.
🔴The fact that tax cuts chiefly benefit people who pay taxes is not an argument against them.
🔴Governments spend money less well than you do.
🔴There’s no such thing as a free lunch.

The brass neck of grandstanding as a champion of women and girls when you did NOTHING until the Supreme Court judgement forced your hand. You weren’t leading, you were dragged kicking and screaming by the law. Don’t mistake compliance for conviction.
The time for talk has long passed. This government is putting its money where its mouth is when it comes to supporting women and girls.
We'll back practical action to confine misogyny to the history books - in public services, workplaces, and online.

Normal people expect the rate of violent crime (especially of a sexual kind) by refugees who have been allowed into the country to be zero. Liberal managerialists haven't grasped this, and their attempts to dismiss attacks by migrants as marginal are deeply unconvincing.
A prestigious liberal outlet breaks cover to acknowledge the disparities of migrant sex offences, but asks us to see it in perspective. In perspective to what, though? My column for @TheCriticMag

Out of the 8 billion people in the world, perhaps 5 billion would consider moving to England's green & pleasant land. You ought to be able to select Stoppards, Eliots, Conrads, Herschels, and Erasmuses. But, you feel it necessary to let in Afghans who rape seven times as often?
Our analysis suggests that Afghans are convicted of sex crimes in England and Wales at seven times the British rate. But the numbers need to be kept in perspective economist.com/britain/2026/1…

No, retirees should **not** have average incomes! They don't need it!!
Their home should be paid off, they aren't raising children, and they no longer have to save for retirement!
Let alone the impossible mathematics of giving non-workers an average income.

Why does the lottery not pay out the winnings every week to everyone who bought a ticket, not just the winners?
Life is full of mysteries when you're Richard Murphy.
Why do shareholders get the rewards when workers create the wealth a company generates? Is it time to rethink just what companies are for and to require that the rewards be shared more fairly? youtu.be/15r28WaimP8?si=oiL5…

Why is the City Bridge Foundation funding “social justice” instead of fixing all of London’s bridges?
The charity was set up in 1282. Today, it’s worth almost *£1.5 billion*.
Yet… London’s bridges are falling apart.
Why?
The Foundation’s rules only require it to maintain 5 bridges. Funds can also be spent on “other charitable purposes” for the benefit of Londoners.
So what are some of these “other charitable purposes”?
👉 A “poet-in-residence”.
👉 Trans and sex worker sector capacity.
👉 A historian examining connections to the slave trade (they found links were “limited”).
👉 “Systems change”, islamic charities, migration support, climate crisis research… and a group campaigning against a new river crossing.
ENOUGH. Governments have failed to fix London’s bridges and one of our oldest institutions has not been directed to step in.
The City of London Corporation is the sole trustee of the Foundation. They have changed the rules before. The rules must change AGAIN to make all of our bridges the priority.
Change the rules. Fix the bridges.
