The Three Degrees: The Runner (1979). The group had signed with Ariola Records by 1978 and were working with Giorgio Moroder, who brought his disco magic to this song.
The Runner is a great track, taken from their 1978 album New Dimensions, which was a solid hit in Europe but not in the US. The B side of the single is simply a longer version of the A side, but the production - along with Sheila Ferguson's voice - means it's worth it.

We spent hours and hours in choreography and vocal rehearsals trying to perfect our ourselves. We were so thrilled to be on @nbcsnl. And after we were done, we were very pleased with our performance. Definitely an unforgettable moment for us! We had so much fun.
When En Vogue hit SNL in March 1992, they dismantled the myth that girl groups couldn’t sing full-throttle live in heels. Trading leads across Cindy, Dawn, Terry, and Maxine, their dynamic control remained untouchable—from Dawn’s raspy rock bite to Terry’s operatic belts. When they converged on the hook, their four-part harmonies locked in with their blend and zero backing tape. The album dropped 3 days later, proving to themselves and to the world just how Funky, these Divas really are.

I’ve been tagged in a lot of “how can an indie company stay in the green nowadays” discussions this week. Mystery Wrestling is kind of a beast of its own, so our model may not work for everyone. In my opinion though, here are things I think would help most indie shows stay alive.

WWE star Chyna says she found a love note from the boss's daughter in her boyfriend Triple H's briefcase. Then the company offered her $400,000 a year, she said no, and she says a fax reached her at a deli: they wouldn't be needing her anymore.
In the video below she says: "I found a note, actually." It came from Stephanie McMahon, she says, "dated, like, a year beforehand."
Chyna was the first woman to win WWE's Intercontinental title. Stephanie's father, Vince McMahon, owned the company. In a 2012 post, Chyna said she told Stephanie she "was lucky her father was there or I would of ripped her face off."
Then the contract came up.
Jim Ross, then WWE's head of talent, says she told him: "I'm as valuable as Stone Cold is to WWE." She wanted $1 million a year. Her sister says the offer had a $400,000 minimum.
She says Vince's last words were that "blood was thicker than water." The next week she was eating lunch at Jerry's Deli when the fax came.
Triple H married Stephanie in 2003 and now runs WWE's creative.
In 2004 an adult film with her then-boyfriend, Sean Waltman, came out. In 2015 Triple H said she "absolutely deserves" the Hall of Fame, then asked what his 8-year-old would find looking her up: "What comes up?"
She died in 2016, at 46. WWE inducted her in 2019, as part of Triple H's group.
The case for WWE: Ross says "her conduct and her mood and attitude" cost her the contract, and Triple H has said their relationship "had gone downhill" before Stephanie.
The case for Chyna: "It wasn't like I was making, like, what the guys were making."
Did she price herself out, or did she lose her job for catching the boss's daughter?
