DC, THE FINAL COUNTDOWN TO ELECTION DAY IS ON! Election Day is right around the corner! Whether you're voting early, mailing in your ballot, or heading to the polls, here are some important dates to remember. October 26 – November 1: Early voting period. November 3: General Election Day. November 3 at 8:00 PM: Deadline to return mail-in ballots to an official DC ballot drop box. November 3: Last day to postmark ballots returned by mail. Ballots must be received by November 13. Don't wait until the last minute! If you're voting by mail, return your ballot early to allow enough time for delivery and postmarking. Make a plan. Know your deadlines. Make your voice heard!

A heartfelt thank you to DC Voters for Animals and Yala Ice Cream for hosting such a wonderful Ice Cream Social! It was a pleasure connecting with neighbors, sharing conversations, and celebrating our community. As a longtime supporter of animal welfare, I believe how we treat animals reflects the compassion and values we bring to our communities. Say YES! to Initiative 86, the Prohibiting Force-Feeding of Birds Act of 2026, an important conversation about animal welfare in our District. Thank you again to our hosts and everyone who joined us for an evening of community, compassion, and, of course, delicious ice cream!

@repoyedc at @LAYCDC a 14-year-old girl used an Alice in Wonderland mural to describe life in a community terrorized by National Guard troops and ICE agents: an upside-down world. LAYC helps DC youth find support and normalcy. We must protect organizations like it. #DCWeDeserve

This saddens me on so many levels. Brother Talib was a great man who used his story to inspire and lift others to greatness. My condolences goes out to his family, friends and colleagues. My thoughts go out to the entire MORCA family during this difficult time.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Talib Shakir, Director of the Mayor’s Office on Returning Citizen Affairs. We share our love, condolences, and prayers with Talib’s family and loved ones, the entire MORCA team, and all the members of our community relations teams who loved and learned from Talib.

Last night, I joined Adam Eidinger and Slobodan Milic at GW Law for a conversation about foie gras and Initiative 86’s path to law. Thank you to GW Law’s Animal Law program and everyone who came to talk about how ballot initiatives shape policy in the District. I appreciated the thoughtful discussion and the chance to hear different perspectives on this issue.

It was great joining Dr. Lynn Jennings and hearing more about what she plans to tackle for Ward 5 families, students, and educators on the DC State Board of Education. I was also proud to share my vision for making UDC tuition-free for DC residents and creating stronger pathways from our classrooms to higher education, careers, and economic opportunity. When we invest in education at every level, we invest in DC’s future. Thank you for having me, Lynn, and I look forward to seeing the work ahead!

For many years, when voting, DC residents only votes for 1 at large person when they have 2 votes. 1 is for the Dem - OYE, and the other is for an Independent - Silverman only. We have our marching orders from JLG - People first; this will take all of us. This a plea for us to be mature and show grace. Please I received my ballot in the mail today. Filled it out and sent it off. This is our time; don’t forget! JLG - Mayor Robert White Oye -At large Silverman - At Large Aparna- W1 All other candidates are running uncontested! Nigeria at 66! Proud to celebrate alongside the Nigerian Ambassador to the United States and his wife, with fellow Nigerians making an impact across so many fields. An evening of culture, community, and music that felt like home. Moments like these remind me why I’m proud of where I come from, and who I carry with me as I serve D.C.

Hispanic Heritage Month is deeply meaningful to me. Like so many in the Latino community, I am a child of immigrants whose journey was defined by resilience, tenacity, and the desire for something better for their family. It was an honor to join the Hispanic Lobbyists Association for the La Placita: Avanza Awards. I stand in solidarity with the Latino community and am grateful to HLA for the invitation and for celebrating our shared stories, culture, and leadership. ¡Sí se puede! Better yet… ¡Sí se pudo

A second chance needs a real path forward. I appreciated hearing from leaders centering reentry and the people directly affected by it. In DC, that means tackling barriers to housing, jobs, and opportunity for neighbors returning home. Thank you, @ficpfm, for leading this work.
