If you’re watching the marine conservation scientist @neshaichida on the #CoralTriangle ep of #Wilderness and you’d like to support her fantastic work follow @resharkorg / reshark.org . Nesha’s working for @thriveconservation - and also does great things with the @misoolfoundation. bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0… ** As you probably know, there’s one fish in particular that’s vital for a healthy sea – the shark. The smallest sharks are just 6 inches long – the biggest the size of a truck. They still evoke fear. But now we know nearly all sharks are of course totally harmless to humans. However as apex predators, they maintain order and balance in the entire underwater ecosystem. Yet globally sharks are in trouble. Overfishing – legal and illegal - is killing tens of millions each year. They’re eaten around the planet, and shark fins are used in a tasteless soup in China and elsewhere. ** Nesha is program manager of ReShark’s StAR Project Indonesia. ReShark has massive ambitions. It’s a worldwide collaboration between governments, universities, aquariums and conservation groups. The aim is to breed and re-introduce hundreds of harmless helpful sharks - which you get to see in the episode at one of the nurseries managed by @misoolfoundation - and possibly ReShark other world sites. Follow @resharkorg and get involved.!

Last week, the Seattle Aquarium hosted @ReSharkOrg's first-ever retreat and workshop! ReShark is a coalition devoted to recovering threatened shark and ray populations that haven’t responded to measures that have helped restore other endangered species (like fishing bans). 🦈
