America mourns the passing of the dazzling and fearless farmworker organizer, Dolores Huerta. Dolores will be forever revered as a giant of the labor movement who stood with working people everywhere. May her righteous memory be a blessing to her family, friends and fellow activists.
Dolores Huerta, who founded the United Farm Workers with Cesar Chavez, changing laws and the lives of thousands of laborers, died on Wednesday at 96. A skilled organizer, she coordinated walkouts and negotiated pathbreaking contracts with agribusiness. nyti.ms/4zZMDUY

My heart is with the friends and family of Dolores Huerta. I send my deepest condolences to her children, her grandchildren and her extended family in the labor and feminist movements. Dolores Huerta was a fearless leader. A guardian of women’s and workers’ rights. A beacon of hope and a mighty force of determination. She was courageous and steadfast in her commitment to protecting, upholding and restoring human rights and her impact was enormous. I was proud to call her my friend and mentor. Dolores surely had her wings long before she left this earth and she now joins a heavenly host of advocates, activists and angels who made life more fair and just. Sí se puede, Dolores.

Ms Rachel: “Moms - ICE broke the wrist of a 20-year-old student who has special needs on his way to school. They had the wrong person. He’s a US citizen, not that it would be okay if he wasn’t a US citizen. They left him on the side of the road with no medical care. He needed surgery. I already cried about this. Now I’m just mad”

I only today came across the concept of ‘stigmergy’, an important element in AI’s capacities to change environments, systems and behaviour without being instructed to do so. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stigme…

I'll be on @BBCRB at 12.50, talking about the expression 'don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs'. First recorded in English in 1692, equivalents exist in other European languages too.

“We want to sit down like anyone else.” On this day in 1960, my father joined students and local activists in a nonviolent protest against segregation at Rich’s department store in downtown Atlanta. He was among 52 people arrested for refusing to leave. They risked their freedom to challenge the humiliation and exclusion of Black people seeking equal treatment. Their courage reminds us that nonviolence requires us to confront injustice, including when it is enforced by law. Let’s honor them by refusing to accept injustice as normal and continuing the work to create the Beloved Community. #MLK #CivilRights #Nonviolence365

Sixty-two years ago, on October 14, 1964, Daddy learned that he had been selected to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. He was just 35 years old. The honor recognized his leadership in the nonviolent struggle for civil rights. He accepted it on behalf of a movement whose courage and sacrifice had shown the world the power of nonviolence. Daddy’s philosophy calls us to confront injustice, transform unjust systems and affirm the dignity of every human being. It requires courage, discipline and love in action. Sixty-two years later, that work remains urgent. The responsibility to advance it remains ours. We honor my father’s legacy by practicing nonviolence in our daily lives and continuing the work to create the Beloved Community. #MLK #NobelPeacePrize #Nonviolence365 #BelovedCommunity

Also worth noting that she held herself out as the "General Counsel" of a nonprofit in California, and my understanding is that you cannot do this if you are not barred somewhere. This actually could be unauthorized practice of law. the-independent.com/news/wor…

There is NO industry that is untouched by prison labor. Not one. Men, women, and children as young as 14 make everything from clothes, furniture, electronics, and canned foods to building materials, school buses, and office supplies. Incarcerated women sew the uniforms for McDonald’s
I knew that they use prison labour for certain things, I didn’t know this one specifically.
