Important doc film on Iran protests in January that led to massacres (my pinned tweet says 43,000 but many of the 350,000 injured now confirmed dead). @BBCOne at 8pm. I’ve been critical of British journalists reporting from inside Iran but this one focusses on those who got out. Must watch TV tonight bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3qj…
I remember 'mixing' this back in 1991 at Trinity... we transitioned to Janacek's Sinfonietta - but this is very cool!

I am ruling out our party entering into a national partnership with any party that is committed to a dangerous and antisemitic policy like the Green Party’s.
Here is my letter to the Jewish Leadership Council and the Board of Deputies of British Jews 👇
Blimey, there are around 17K active satellites orbiting the earth... and 11K are for Musk's StarLink!

I have signed a letter from 42 fellows and foreign members of the Royal Society to Paul Nurse, the president of the society, concerning the need to treat the serious risks of AI as an emergency.

It's interesting to think about how much, if at all, the positive sentiments expressed here are appropriate to mathematicians. His main reason for optimism comes at the end: that now that "chiselling code by hand" is no longer necessary, "we can build amazing things". 1/3

Reading all those recent beautiful essays by Terry Tao, Kevin Buzzard and @wtgowers, I could not resist, but write up my deeply personal perspective on how I perceive and see things:

After nearly 2 full decades in war journalism, I admit that it does depress me that of the many opinions I hold, the one that drives the most abuse, is the belief that I want both Jews and Arabs to live safely, securely & prosperously as neighbours & friends in the Middle East.
RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. on “Breaking Bad,” has died. He was 34.
• A cause of death was not immediately disclosed by his representatives.
• Like his “Breaking Bad” character Walt Jr., Mitte had cerebral palsy. Throughout his acting career, he was an advocate for disability representation in Hollywood.

I am Zionist.
So wonderful to see so many people declare themselves as Zionist.
I did it last week (kinda unprompted). I only regret that I didn't say it unequivocally 3 years ago.
BTW I am a Zionist.
I am not Jewish but am a Zionist - as I believe Israel has a right to exist.
There are plenty of other religious-dominated countries too who have much worse track records, eg. Iran. The fixation with Israel seems to be essentially antisemitic.
The Substance: a rather plodding and unwitty retelling of Dorian Gray. Nevertheless pretty enjoyable and rather fun at the end!

After the Green Party's "Zionism is Racism" vote, the Leader of Haringey Council, which is controlled by the Greens, wrote to various Synagogues in the borough to "reassure" them.
I want to show you Highgate Synagogue's reply. I believe it is worth reading in its entirety.

"Do you think that the state of Israel, as a safe home for Jews after the Holocaust and after the pogroms, has a right to exist?"
@bbcnickrobinson repeatedly asks Green Party leader Zack Polanski.
"Zack has been working with Jewish members of the party and with Jewish organisations to make it clear that we are not antisemitic."

No amount of "make it clear... we are not antisemitic" makes a blind bit of difference... if you're antisemitic.
